Chris did express his concerns and did be offering his services, then did the NSK be most frosty. I do be grateful for this, as then did I imagine what what do be happening if Chris did be becoming the voice of sumo in the language that does be called English.

    calleth, calleth.

  2. Elephant in the room. It’s "got beaten", not "got beat". One tiny example.  Nitpicking? Sure. It's NHK's English commentary, not some private youtube channel. There is no question the man knows his sumo and is well connected and has great stories and can be quite entertaining and seems to be an all-around nice chap. A few small tweaks, is all. He gets a lot of negative feedback on the world wide web. Someone has to correct him. No big deal, but yes big deal to some.

I've no doubt Miyagino-san saw it all, possibly more than any of us.

Hakuho was the GOAT and he pushed the boundaries of acceptable behaviour, but when it came to training he claimed his success was all down to sumo basics. If he's training his deshi like that then he's a very traditional oyakata.

Takanofuji was a dai-yokozuna scion of a sumo dynasty and probably believed he had a destiny to be a mover and shaker in the NSK...

    Chalk and cheese, mate.

As we say- we shall see..

Anyhow, things seem to be progressing quietly, conventionally and without controversy. @Kintamayama You still think he'll be gone in a couple of years?

Yes, I do. with a heya now, he will be feeling more confident to do things his way. See Takanohana..

  5. Today at the  rijikai: "Maybe we don't need to withdraw whole heyas when someone is tested positive? How about we test the rikishi and let the negative ones continue?" asked some Oyakatas. "We are a public interest incorporated foundation and have to abide by the laws of the land, but maybe we can find a  workaround here.." suggested Shibatayama Oyakata.

  6. More rikishi, gyoji and tokoyama have been found positive to the virus, announced Shibatayama Oyakata today. "There are even small heyas where everyone was found positive. Still, we are not talking about postponing or canceling at this stage. All those participating will undergo daily antigen tests," he added.

  7. Another great Japanese hope Keita Kawazoe (23) has been officially granted the Makushita 15 tsukedashi entry status. He will be joining Miyagino beya, which is quickly becoming a powerhouse.

  8. This one is going to be fun..So, do we demote Mitakeumi? What do we do with guys who withdrew before they got their MK/KK? And those that that got them after? And Brittney Spears? Does George Clooney really like coffee?

This is a formal invitation to play the "Guess the Banzuke" game!! 25 years, 147 bashos. Please play. Gluten-free.

Game rules: Guess the Banzuke. Simple. You get two points for a bulls-eye and one point for just getting the rank right. You get no points for expecting to see reason in the banzuke -makers' decisions. Tiebreakers - Most total guesses, then we check the banzuke backwards - getting the lower half right will be important.  The most correct guesses in the last ten places will win the tiebreaker. If still tied, we go up a ranking at a time like a penalty shootout. If still tied, I suggest the best font used wins. Wingdings not allowed. It's up to you to check if you are on the list of entries. It's going to be your fault if you don't notice that your entry went missing in the Internet void. No late entries will be expected or accepted. Those are the rules, and the rules will never be changed. Just like the Banzuke is a living thing.

For rules, standings and the book "Ichinojou's back!" which can be read in many ways:

For the nifty entry form, which will hopefully continue to do what it's intended to do : http://sumodb.sumoga...b/GTBEntry.aspx

    For the "new" archives: http://sumodb.sumoga...gtbarchive.aspx

See if you are on the entry list:

Deadline: Monday, August 22nd, 2022 at 18:00 GMT ("Give Me That!") - PLEASE NOTE-THIS IS ONE WEEK BEFORE THE OFFICIAL BANZUKE ANNOUNCEMENT!!

Special thanks to Andoreasu who runs it, Doitsuyama who automates and maintains it and to real banzuke makers who always make me look bad.

  9. "The banzuke was made in a fair way. Mitakeumi? The base is the same as usual but I can't say anything until the banzuke is released," said a cryptic Isegahama Oyakata today. I guess that means Mitakeumi remains kadoban for Aki. The reporter is guessing those that got kachikoshi or makekoshi before they pulled out will be ranked according to these records, but those who withdrew before KK/MK will either stay at their ranks or be demoted  a rank ." I can't talk about the banzuke specifically as that would mean I would be giving away details. We can discuss this after the banzuke is released on August 29th," he added. When asked if new rules that will address these specific issues will be instated, he answered; "We can't do that..It's the banzuke, after all."  It is said that the banzuke is a "living thing", so making precise rules for anything is out of the question, it seems.
