  1. Enhou, currently ranked Sandanme 83 east. Entry decision to be made early tomorrow as well. Has been out for 4 straight bashos. He trained today, had 12 bouts , won them all. The problem is they were against two Jonidan rikishi. He is from Kanazawa prefecture, hit by the earthquake, relatives injured. "It's really sad that this happened..It motivated me a lot to enter and has given me strength. The pain is still there. I'm not 100% healed,. I'm not sure if I will ever be able to overcome everything. To be honest, there are still some after effects. I have to overcome my battle with fear. I do want to enter, though,," he said.

  2. Kirishima today-Tokitsukaze beya. 23-6 against Nishikigi, Shoudai, Ouhou, Gounoyama, and Hokuseihou. Looking good. "I as able to do good keiko," he summed.

Terunofuji intends to enter. "He wants to enter, he says he is in good shape, but he really hasn't done much sumo bout-wise..." summed his Oyakata.

Hakuhouhouhouhou- decision to be made early tomorrow morning.

Gounoyama- 22 bouts these last two days and looks ready. "I'm aiming for sanyaku- I cannot dillydally," he said. 7 straight kachikoshis since Kyushu 2022.

  3. Makushita and post-surgery great hope Hakuouhou trained at home against Sandanme and Makushita opponents, 13-1, looking strong but grimacing as he held his shoulder after the session. "We went to the hospital for a check up yesterday and he was very confident and said he has recovered, but we'll see how keiko goes tomorrow and the day after and decide if he enters," said Miyagino Oyakata.

It's probably an issue at both ends; regional camps not close enough to the train destinations and heya not close enough to the departure station in Tokyo.

Anyway, Nikkan's article sounds way overblown to me. All that's probably changing is that the Kyokai is no longer procuring ticket allotments for one specific train, leaving the travel arrangements to the individual stables. It's not like the 11 heya that were still using the train are going to be barred from continuing to use it, and I'm sure plenty of other heya were still going to the regional basho on trains as well, just not on the train. So, meh. This strikes me mostly as a journalist bemoaning the disappearance of an easy bi-monthly story opportunity.

They quoted Kimura Ginjirou as saying he is very sad that another tradition is gone. You are correct in your analysis, but it was a "thing" and now that any heya can take the journey in any manner they wish brings  that "we are a broad sumo family traveling together" feeling to an end.

  5. Yokozuna contender Kirishima went to Tokitsukaze beya for degeiko today, faced Nishikigi, Hokutofuji, Shoudai, Gounoyama, Ouhou, and Hokuseihou and was 29-4 (24-9 by another account..) in 40 minutes of intensive sumo. "I was checking out loads of stuff. I could have danced all night gone on and on.. I wanted to do more!" he enthused. "I wanted to do strong sumo from the get go with a strong tachiai and properly move my body," he added, even showing an occasional hari-zashi. He showed no signs of his shoulder bothering him, unlike yesterday at the YDC soken where he didn't do so well. "My shoulder is fine. I won't be hurrying things. *I'll only be doing what I can do," he summed.

*Seems like "I can only do what I can do" is the new "I will gambarize!"

  6. The famous Sumo- train used by the rikishi to travel to the three non-Tokyo venues has been discontinued. Makushita and under rikishi used to travel on this train a day after the Banzuke was released and returned to Tokyo a week after the end of the basho. Tokyo station used to be filled with hundreds of rikishi and officials giving off the the sweet aroma of the bintsuke oil and fans used to gather to see their idols board the train. This always signaled that a basho was approaching. But as times change, the use of the train dwindled and for Kyushu only 11 of the 44 heyas used the train. The turning point was COVID- after March 2020 the train was suspended and was reinstated only last Nagoya. So now, each heya will get to the provincial tournaments on their own. Another historical facet of sumo comes to an end. Trains will be continued to be used during some parts of jungyo, but the Sumo train is no more.

  8. The YDC soken was held today. Terunofuji was 10-3. 6-2 against Takakeishou, 2-0 against Kirishima and 2-1 against Daieishou. He refused to declare his participation in Hatsu yet, saying he will see. Takakeishou was 2-6, only facing Terunofuji. Kirishima was 3-5 (three straight wins, then five straight losses) and favoring his right elbow, Houshouryuu was 0-3 against Takayasu who won six straight bouts against Ozekis and was 7-0 overall. Kotonowaka was 10-2, facing the likes of Shoudai, Abi and Tobizaru..

  9. Kotonowaka did not do well against Kirishima, 1-5. He had 16 bouts in all and was 9-7 (8-2 against the rest..) "I didn't have many bouts, but what I did I did properly.. I was thankful to be called out by the Ozeki. I felt I would do all I could. I will be facing tomorrow with the same feeling, I guess.." he said. "I trained against opponents I'm not used to training against, so naturally in some cases I couldn't do my own sumo. I need to somehow do my own sumo in those cases as well. New year? Try to go higher, as there still is where to go.." he said. He was promised the Kotozakura name if he makes it to Ozeki. "There's the shikona thing, so I'll be doing my best to achieve that. I will properly prepare myself and aim for that.." he summed.

  10. Oonosato was 2-7. "I was shocked when Kirishima called me out (1-4). He is last basho's yusho winner, so it was my intention to borrow his chest.. I am still very weak. My aim is kachikoshi. I will be training very hard this coming week " he said. His one win against Kirishima came via oshidashi.

Takakeishou? Nowhere to be seen. "He injured his neck. It's not getting any better so he'll have to live with the pain..He is only doing the fundamentals at the moment. No sumo yet. I apologize for him not being able to train," said his Oyakata  Tokiwayama.

  11. Busy morning today, as two rengo-keikos were held. Isegahama Ichimon and Nishonoseki Ichimon were active.

Isegahama, held at Kasugano  Miyagino beya:

Terunofuji had nine bouts, going 8-1 against Takarafuji and Nishikifuji. He was in attack mode and looked good. "I have been doing what I can," he said, seen doing ten bouts a day for a while now.

New Juryo and great hope Takerufuji had 22 bouts today in his first ever rengo-keiko experience. "I was nervous.." he stated.

    Nishonoseki, at Takadagawa beya:

Kirishima was there, the only one not belonging to the Ichimon, 17-9 against the likes of Shounannoumi (4-0), Kotonowaka (5-1) , Oonosato (4-1), Takanoshou (2-1), and finally while worn out, Takayasu (2-6).. "I didn't do so well against Takayasu-zeki, but I was able to do keiko that will connect to the next step. It's important to give it your all even if you lose. I wanted to do 30 bouts, but I was totally exhausted.. If I can overcome that and actually do 30 bouts a session, it will be good, since I only started training yesterday.. I'll be coming here again tomorrow. I want to do more bouts.. I called on Oonosato the newbie because his body is large and there are great expectations of him" he said.

Takayasu: "It was good keiko. I was able to hit well and felt I did my own sumo. My aim for the new year is to return to Ozeki, but first, double digit wins this basho.."

Any idea for a new game is a good idea to me but as I read several wacky posts after your OP I assumed it wasn't so serious afterall. :-)

Oh, it’s serious*. Once I understand it, it’s a go!

    *- not serious..

No it doesn't. The Banzuke committee has it all wrong. They will come to their senses eventually. Let's play fair and see all of last year, not just the last one. Of course it's not in the realm of Bumbuk (though i beat him in May and July..), but it's not bad.
