  1. Sekinoto Oyakata, the former Asanoshou, has switched to the Oshiogawa name.
  2. It's that time again. Again, apologies for last basho's entry page problems. Hopefully, that is all behind us, or at least beneath us. One thing we've learned, again - there is absolutely no reason to delay your entry. Nothing is going to change from today till then. It's a fun game, please play. Drring driiiing. Nobody home. This is a formal invitation to play the "Guess the Banzuke" game!! 25 years, 145 bashos. Please play. Gluten-free. Game rules: Guess the Banzuke. Simple. You get two points for a bulls-eye and one point for just getting the rank right. You get no points for whining about the Ozeki. Tiebreakers - Most total guesses, then we check the banzuke backwards - getting the lower half right will be important. The most correct guesses in the last ten places will win the tiebreaker. If still tied, we go up a ranking at a time like a penalty shootout. If still tied, I suggest the best bribe wins. Preferably a week at some cool resort where they have drinks with umbrellas, and not vice versa. It's up to you to check if you are on the list of entries. It's going to be your fault if you don't notice that your entry went missing in the Internet void. No late entries will be expected or accepted. Those are the rules, and the rules will never be changed. Just like the dohyo will never be lowered and Enhou will not grow taller.. For rules, standings and the additional refresher course for the new shinpan which will never happen: http://www.dichne.com/Guess.htm For the nifty entry form, which will hopefully do what it's intended to do this time: http://sumodb.sumoga...b/GTBEntry.aspx For the "new" archives: http://sumodb.sumoga...gtbarchive.aspx See if you are on the entry list: http://sumodb.sumogames.de/gtb/GTBEntryList.aspx Deadline: Monday, June 20 2022 at 18:00 GMT ("Gyoji Mustn't Tie!!") - PLEASE NOTE-THIS IS ONE WEEK BEFORE THE OFFICIAL BANZUKE ANNOUNCEMENT!! Special thanks to Andoreasu who runs it, Doitsuyama who automates and maintains it and to the VAR for showing the right part of the bout in question.
  3. As promised, degeiko has resumed today after two years and three months. Takayasu arrived at Oitekaze beya. He is the only sekitori at his heya , so not much to train with there. That was made quite obvious last basho when the lack of real training was quite conspicuous. OT0H, Oitekaze has quite a few sekitori. He arrived at eight thirty in the morning, doing shiko and other fundamentals. Then, he entered the ring and faced the Oitekaze guys for some sumo. Komusubi Daieishou, Tobizaru, Juryo Daiamami and Daishouhou -all types of rikishi. !8 bouts, won 11, facing Daieishou for the last consecutive nine bouts. Takayasu came to Oitekaze for the first time since he was an Ozeki. "Brings back fond memories..Really. After all, it's really good to face some sekitori, and I am very satisfied. My spirit is heightened and it's great to face guys with different personalities. It's a great learning experience and I would like to thank everyone for their efforts. I have been looking forward to this for so long, and the atmosphere was quite cheerful. I will be upping my pace for the remainder of the possible degeiko days (17). I plan to visit many heyas and go all out and check out the new Nishonoseki lodgings and maybe have a chance to train with the Oyakata again.. I plan not to repeat last bashos mistakes (unprepared) and arrive on day 1 in the best condition possible and cruise through all 15 days safely." he summed.

    Sports Gambling In Japan

But isn’t gambling on sports illegal in Japan? Or has that changed? I mean, can you go into a place and bet on sports, not virtually? Is betting via the internet legal now for Japanese citizens? Specifically, betting on baseball, soccer/ football and sumo?

    New kesho mawashi

Gounoyama goes and gets a new keshomawashi from his alma mater Saitama Sakae: "Gives me impetus- getting a makekoshi after this has no meaning so I have to properly get a kachikoshi!!.."
  14. 4th time kadoban Shoudai trained at home today, facing visitor Nishikigi and others, going 6-5. "It's better to face a new type of opponent in training rather than face the same guys over and over again. To sum last basho up (a hard 5-10..), I couldn't do my own sumo at all for the entire 15 days. Now, I'm thinking about swift attacks after the tachiai and not letting my opponents do their own sumo, " he explained. He weighed 175 kilos when he won the yusho in September, but now, he weighs 162.3 kilos. "I'd like to gain some weight if I can.. I'm eating a lot of take away jiro ramen. I intend not only to increase my weight, but to increase the number of bouts in training as well as I prepare for the basho, " he quipped.

How many komusubi did you go for? (Nagoya GTB)

Kiribayama, for reasons stated in the quote before this

How many komusubi did you go for? (Nagoya GTB)

Easy - Kiribayama with a 10-5 at M2. Takanoshou was 11-4 at W4. Why both of them? I thought Kiribayama should come before Takanoshou. A 10-5 from M2 seemed to me a better shot than an 11-4 from M4, for some reason..

Preparations of the Y/O Nagoya 2022

Mitakeumi has revealed today that he injured his right shoulder last basho. "I'll be entering the basho with no real preparation," he admitted. He injured the shoulder on his day 1 bout against Takayasu, when he fell off the dohyo. So far he has only done some shiko in training and it is not clear if he did any sumo at all. "I'm not impatient yet, but I am feeling uncertain. I'll be ready in time for Nagoya," he summed.

Preparations of the masses- July 2022

Shimanoumi got married a few days ago. Today he was present at keiko and was 10-6, going 4-1 against Juryo Churanoumi and Hidenoumi. He missed kachikoshi by one win last basho. "I shall be collecting that debt," he promised. His new wife is supportive and encourages him to do good Sumo and stay healthy. "I can really concentrate on sumo now that she has my back. She is an excellent cook as well!" he enthused.
