    Basho Talk Haru 2018 (SPOILERS)

Has anyone caught any of Amajanai's maezumo bouts? Think he might make yokozuna by next tournament?

    Basho Talk Haru 2018 (SPOILERS)

And didn't John predict Goeidou 14-1 on the broadcast? Even after I told him how Goeidou's power up move works?

    Dohyo and Injuries

I've already petitioned the NSK to replace the tawari with foam core, construct the dohyo from a giant, inflatable balloon, and add a ball pit around the outside to cushion impacts. I've been told they've taken my suggestions under serious advisement and that I'm not to come within 100 m of the building.

Preparations of the Y/O Haru 2018

Goeidou's fan's cheer, cautiously optimistic, results may vary.

    Harumafuji scandal thread- part 2

He's already demonstrated a strong and steady hand for keeping younger guys in line. ....maybe too soon?

Preparations of the Y/O Haru 2018

As the official score keeper of the Go-Go-Goeidou Fanclub, I'm sad to report that Goeidou is three basho away from turning in an adequate performance. I've deduced that his erratic technique requires him to power up with a double-kadoban before he can unleash his unblockable attack. But don't tell anyone. This is a secret to everybody.

    Takanohana-devil's advocate

It was ghost written by Kintamayama. The book is a quick round up of the various verbal matches between the parties in digest form, and the fourth chapter is written in different fonts. It's very entertaining! But personally, I'd wait a day and pick up the corrected version of book.

    42nd Grand Sumo Tournament

I miss Takamisakari and his crazy warm ups.

    Haru jungyo 2018

I've always meant to ask...the jungyo are mostly PR/hype events right? Do spectators pay to attend, or are these events free?

    New recruits for Haru 2018

Amajanai Kohei (33, 186cm, 133kg) from definitely not Mongolia will join Isegahama-beya. He apparently has never done sumo before, but is transferring over from university where he was studying to be in law enforcement. When asked about accepting such an old recruit with no sumo experience, Isegahama oyakata responded that "although old, he's in pretty decent shape and is picking up sumo really quick. he'll definitely be ready for haru!"

Has Takanohana reported any bean-related injuries from this latest incident?

    Basho Talk Hatsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

I dunno. I watched Cowboy Bebop, and that guy using the "Bloody Mary" drug got super awesome techniques and made him look pinkish and...wait, what do you mean Cowboy Bebop wasn't a documentary?

    Basho Talk Hatsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

It doesn't applies to Asashoryu at all. Asashoryu was already an ascendant star and already better than the existent competition. And yes, his yokozuna competition was on its way out, and his fellow ozekis were perennial 8-10 winners, but a competitive void is hardly the same. So no, Asashoryu didn't seize upon banzuke opportunities, unless "being way, way better than all of your competition" counts. :D

Sorry, I didn't intend to imply it wasn't.

    Basho Talk Hatsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

I think maybe I misunderstood your initial statement. I'm not dissing Takayasu's potential to grab the tsuna. With the much shorter competitive playing field, if he can demonstrate the level of sumo that he did getting his ozeki promotion, he will probably earn the tsuna. But the YDC isn't going to lower the bar for him. And you're correct - this year seems like the right time to do it. Kakuryu certainly snagged his promotion by taking advantage of opportune banzuke dynamics; it'll be interesting to see if Takayasu will do the same.

    Basho Talk Hatsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

I seriously doubt they are in that much of a rush. Takayasu hasn't shown particularly good numbers in the year since his ozeki promotion and concurrent injury.

    I'm hopeful, though not optimistic.

    Basho Talk Hatsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

I suspect that after such a long lay off, Kakuryu simply didn't have the stamina to finish a tournament strong. I thought he looked good (up until he reverted to his backwards sumo) and I'll be really surprised if the YDC does more than the usual non-yusho-winning-grumble about his return performance.

    Osunaarashi scandal

I don't see how he stays in sumo after this. The NSK has had enough of police troubles, I think, and this one is pretty clear cut.

    Basho Talk Hatsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

Aw yeaaaah. Takayasu is in the driver seat for this one. He's got Tochinoshin right where he wants him.

So, good bettin' odds, then! I'm in. Takayasu yusho!

Kisenosato-"I'm putting everything on the line!"

I think I'm confusing forum speculation and newspaper reports as to the nature of his current injuries. Is his ongoing status the fact that the pectoral injury never healed properly/was aggravated? Or is it that in the time he took to heal it, he's lost a lot of strength? Or did Takanohana hit him with a magical beer bottle of losing? All of the above?

    Osunaarashi scandal

Probably only funny to English-speaking insurance brokers who like telling terrible jokes: I find it hilarious that Kurama (car = 車 kuruma) was partly responsible for the driving ban.

    Basho Talk Hatsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

Don't worry, Amamaniac, Goeidou's got this. I've got an inside scoop that the foreigners are going to call this basho in and a Japanese rikishi will take the yusho.
