That's also why the query returns him twice as it counts his 1-4 and 2-5 streaks as separate entities. I remembered that one, but to be fair I had completely forgotten Kitataiki's.

Here. Chiyoshoma is the 3rd man to keep his makuuchi spot after 3 consecutive MK from M14 or below in the current 42-man format. He follows the footsteps of Kimurayama (2011) and Kitataiki. (2015) Bad omen for the Mongolian: both of his antecessors followed it up with dire performances to ensure 4th straight MKs. Unsurprisingly, 8 out of 9 of those MKs were 7-8.
-
We have our first confirmation for Nagoya: Chiyoshoma remains in makuuchi after his 7-8 score from M17e, changes his shikona to Shinkimurayama.

That linked post was amazing to read through. Everyone was trash-talking soon-to-be-Akiseyama quite heavily, turns out the big guy proved some people wrong by reaching makuuchi.

Watching him humpty-bumpty-chugging everyone and their siblings out of the dohyo day in and day out, after spending quite a while being a likable average ozeki. That was an enjoyable fornight to watch.

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Haru 2019

Do you remember those years when Goeido and Tochiozan were regarded as equal prospects and eternal rivals for life? Me neither. -
Tochiozan is your man if you're looking for someone who can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, even if this time it was more about being completely played around with.

Who's to say that Tochiozan doesn't gambarize from now on and Tochinoshin waltzes his way to a 8-7 score next time around - with some surprising yorikiri wins against Takayasu and Goeido? -
Horyuyama, ex-Sekiguchi and Ms41, has just had his 3rd basho out of 29 under this shikona where he didn't finish either 4-3 or 3-4! Because of that he's been stuck in mid makushita since the Ice Age but with his 5-2 it seems the forgotten promise got a confidence boost.
-
Other than Takayasu's beastly mode, what worries me the most is actually the very last bout of this basho. I hope Harumafuji wins against Kakuryu, it'd make his position much safer within the council.

Is Osunaarashi really 24 years old (Kyushu basho 2016)?

I remember I had tons of laughs about that, because of the sheer desperation a certain green-white club had in trying to advert that story. Despite the fact that about half a dozen years ago a 10-year-old Renato Sanches was on Benfica's youth teams, looking very 10-year old against other kids who looked 10-year old! Desperate and idiotic people just want to be blind. Eventually the biggest hospital in this country showed the birth certificate to the press and the story was gone. Don And thank you for implying this isn't a developed country. The only possible reason is that you have no idea how this is. -
I was doing a little research and I found out he was murdered 11 years ago. That's really sad.

It depends. Pelota is a different kind of ball there. There are Spanish football club names that have "Balompie" on it. Balon = ball, pie = foot. It's mostly archaic. (the "n" swapping to a "m" before a "p" is traditional) However for example, balonciesto and balonmano are still the official words for the respective sports there! Ciesto = basket, mano = hand. We Portuguese use a version of the original English word on every one of those though. EDIT Speaking of the Portuguese influences on Japanese language, it's so clear in the way it's romanized. 70~80% of the romanized stuff pronounces exactly the way we do. Words like "Hiroshi", "Ryu", "Shimano", "Mirai" you could ask the most uncultured of Portuguese and they'll pronounce it in almost clear Japanese. With centuries passing by some adaptations have happened that drifted it a little away, but reading manuscripts of those times on some history channel documentary it used to be almost direct.

Just how many languages can you speak?

That list shows their shikona of the time. Close inspection reveals quite interesting names. Miyabiyama, Musoyama, Kaiho...

My guess about the guy in the middle is current part-time comedian Tenryu Genichiro. He was a Nishonoseki makushita by then, and his apparent height / weight fit in. -

And indeed, it's going to be Higoarashi v Tosayutaka. A fully crowded 6-1 playoff will ensue in case of a Tosayutaka win. Here's the 5-1 makushita ranks so far: ○–○––○–○●–○– Ms4e Amuru ○––○–●○–○–○– Ms5w Tosayutaka –○–○–○–○○–●– Ms7e Yamatofuji –○–○○––●–○–○ Ms15TD Ichinojo –○–○○––●–○–○ Ms26e Kairyu –○–○○––○●–○– Ms33w Kotokobai –○–○○–●–○–○– Ms36e Terao ○–○––○○–○–●– Ms41e Komanokuni ○––●○––○–○–○ Ms46w Kotoeko –●○––○○–○––○ Ms47w Tamadaiki ○––●○–○––○○– Ms53e Hitenryu Pairings for tomorrow include Amuru v Ichinojo, Yamatofuji v Kairyu, Terao v Kotokobai, Komanokuni v Kotoeko and Hitenryu v Tamadaiki. Essentially, everyone gets paired up and tomorrow we'll know wether Higoarashi really upsets Tosayutaka to take the yusho, or who we'll have on a massive 7-man playoff on senshuraku - those two plus the 5 winners. -
To be fair I wanted to donate something, but I fear the amount I could be spending at this crucial economics time + no-income university student away from home + using up parents' reserves would be more of a joke than exactly a token of appreciation.

According to current Japanese law: Yes! (Dunno about Bulgaria, but wouldn't matter here anyways). Bulgarian law allows double citizenship, but that indeed does not matter when the other country doesn't allow it. Thank you for your swift replies. What I was thinking was correct then. It's a shame though, for people to rescind from their home places, even if I sort of expected it from a close-knit cultural nation such as Japan. It does make me wonder, those ex-Mongolians that were taken away by Yaochogate. Their future probably wasn't bright at all.
-
Sorry for the possibly ignorance-ridden question, but is it really impossible to have a dual Bulgarian-Japanese citizenship? That dual case in particular, or if being Japanese or Bulgarian means having to be exclusively THAT nationality. I find it hard to believe Kaloyan Malyanov the person would be OK with relinquishing his original citizenship without a serious reason to.

Both Ichinojo's wins looked so effortless it's even scary. Just how good is he?
