    Persistence Watch - 2013 edition

i hope he can do better than all of his rikishi but i guess it is too early to be judgemental after all. But i always am sooo ...... B-)

    Persistence Watch - 2013 edition

being honest i am hoping for this ... Musashimaru's rikishi should start picking up wins after all ... (also .... Go Kiyomusashi !!!)

    Pre-bout rituals by rikishi

maybe his new shikona for Makuuchi (is it possible to get there with a 14-1 yusho?) will be 無限の儀式 (Mugenogishiki). (this feeble attempt to create a shikona was financed by "Google-Translate Productions")

    Nagoya Basho 2013 discussion thread

I think Aoiyama has more chances for the yusho than Kise, schedule-wise. but i also think that Hakuho can beat both Oshu and Kise even with an injured right side. He just has to stop compensating for his "lack" of training with uwate or shitate throws..
  5. and i hope he was not injured today. if the reports are correct (and why wouldn't they) It would be interesting to see him fight seriously or at least semi-seriously in a naadam.

    Persistence Watch - 2013 edition

indeed he was. i'll say it once more ... Hakkaku beya needs to start recruiting more talent. Not just new rikishi. Sometimes i wonder what is the level of keiko that goes on there ... i am not a happy fan.

    Nagoya Basho 2013 discussion thread

including makushita division (i find the inclusion of it rather interesting as you find there rikishi worthy to mention) the results are 82 wins and 70 losses in 152 first time meeting.
  8. no grain of salt here ... i appreciated all of the translations and enjoyed the fact that i can understand more things of the whole naadam. now really .... i will be there once in my life. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Leaderboard Day 11 Nagoya Basho 2013

some day ..... some day .....
  10. you understand you are killing me here. I love Mongolian wresting .... it's official now. it's like wrestling/sumo/judo and WWE in one huge pile of awesomeness. thanks a lot for the translation of the honours they announce. Priceless. (Applauding...)

Leaderboard Day 11 Nagoya Basho 2013

2012.07 kyokutenho right after his yusho of course .... (Sigh...) well .... that was time worth spent doing meaningless queries. (Laughing...)

Leaderboard Day 11 Nagoya Basho 2013

cannot remember the last time i saw a rikishi being 0-11 and not going kyujo .... nothing is working for Daido. EDIT: i tried to do a query and this is what i found but i am not good at these queries ... so take the results with a pinch of salt Query the real result was in 1947 ....by Nayoroiwa. i cannot exclude Takanotsuru's 0-10-fusenpai-kyujo or Konishiki's weird basho EDIT 2: Ok .. someone help me out. I did a query for 12 losses and got Kakizoe in 2007 who went 0-11-fusenpai. EDIT 3: and these guys are really persistent too ....

    Nagoya Basho 2013 discussion thread

i am pretty sure Takanoyama was dreaming about Osunaarashi's extended arms after the tachi-ai all night long. I had seen this bout in my head happening beforehand but i just pictured it like "yank-twist-get from behind-yori". well ..... (and this was probably my only correct prediction in Seki-toto (Laughing...) (In jonokuchi...))

    Nagoya Basho 2013 discussion thread

it looked like Hakuho thought it was a matta. That's why he gave the look afterwards. and he is not doing great in general. But he barely trained and he still wins against everyone, Ozekis included. (and my analysis may have been premature since i just watched this once in the stream but the result of this analysis still stands though. He is really good and what he does ... :-P)

    Nagoya Basho 2013 discussion thread

so Hakuho proved that he can win a bout against an Ozeki even when he stops midway the tachi-ai due to the matta that was never called. if anyone was not convinced by now ... he is really good at what he does.

    The Wall 2013

for the record i only meant we could include rikishi that missed a whole basho (0-0-7) or had only one fusen-pai on day 1 and were absent for the rest of the basho (0-1-6) in general. If you never get in the dohyo in a basho i don't consider it a real MK. but i guess i can keep my own stats for this situations. B-)
  17. aderechelsea

    Nagoya Basho 2013 discussion thread

he meant that Haru will possibly go kyujo due to his record and avoid a mk or a 8-7. so since he is in the torikumi ..... a fusensho win for Kotooshu. EDIT: Doitsuyama already answered as i see.

    The Wall 2013

well ... Sasanoyama went MK after all .... (Sigh...) (In jonokuchi...) but i still believe that rikishi that only had absences and never a fighting MK they should be in this list. At least with a "*" next to their name...

i agree with you but Endo is not overweight like Ichihara or under-sized like Tosayutaka. The over-hype around him seems more appropriate than for these guys. And mind you ... i am one of the biggest "Gorilla" fans around here but i am not living a fantasy about his prospects in high Makuuchi. (i do that only for Kyokushuho and i keep getting disappointed (Sigh...))

not to mention that his skill level is not for the meat-grinder. He is big and from Georgia (naturally strong like many Caucasians) .... that's what he offers. Don't ask for more ... he cannot provide. btw ... i consider Gagamaru to be an overachiever. I would never bet that he would be in Makuuchi for ~20 basho.

since this is brought up again ... i also think Endo is quite impressive. I rate him quite high in my personal "prospect list". He is so technically solid with what he does this far that i am just expecting to see more stuff from him in order to see his limits. High Juryo or low Makushita will be a nice test but a visit to the meat-grinder will tell the best parts (or rather the important parts) of his story. He has the body and the right attitude for sumo. I hope he is the real deal.

thank you for reminding people the serious details of that era and putting the whole mediocrity talk in historical perspective. it was indeed but i still feel "robbed" as a Shuho fan by the result. He should have beaten Daikiho after all he did before extending his hand to cut the impact of his fall. With loses like that i will start thinking he will not become Yokozuna any time soon :-P .
  25. since this topic came up, i would like to ask if there are any videos of the recent naadam online. I think i am developing a serious interest in mongolian wresting. i think it was ~9 years ago that i decided i will go to Mongolia during a naadam to watch it, when i do my road trip to Northern Asia, but i was either lazy or i just did other things or i just spent my money on different kind of trips. The goal still remains though and i was thinking of doing a "mongolia/northern china/southern russia and then Japan" trip while trying to be in Mongolia in July and then Japan by September for the Aki basho. If i won't do it in the next 2-3 years please remind me not to bother you again with my unfulfilled goals (Laughing...)
