    Doreen Simmons' Passing

Haven't posted on the Forum before but needed to acknowledge Doreen's widespread contribution to sumo. For me, she was a pioneer in making it ok for women...........let alonge 'senior' women, to be serious fans of sumo. What a role model she was! Secondly, I'm grateful for the context she provided on NHK broadcasts about the meaning of a myriad of aspects of the physical environment of sumo, its history and her personal memories of a life lived in connection to sumo. The NHK broadcasts are my learning tool and she was the 'icing on the cake' whenever she provided color commentary. I'm sad that there doesn't seem to be recognition of her life and contribution to sumo in the media. Hopefully, it's soon to come. She deserves it. RIP Doreen.........and thanks.

    Demise of Sumo Mailing List?

That would be wonderful! Also removes a great burden from Joe. if you can continue the List, I think many of us would be really, really grateful, me included! Arrigato!!

    Demise of Sumo Mailing List?

Because ability to post anything on SML list has been intermittent over the past few months, I think a lot of Listers weren't even aware that the owner isn't going to maintain it any more. Those trying to find an alternative option haven't been able to access Joe's list, so nobody's been "notified." Sounds from an earlier posting (now displaying a 404 notice) like it really may be too late to save it. It's a shame, as there was a lot of sumo knowledge among those on the List, in addition to what's here.
  4. Informative as the Forum is, it's always great to have additional sources and perspectives. Unfortunately, we're about to lose one of those. The owner of Sumo Mailing List is no longer able to provide that service to all of us. If we can't identify a replacement, SML is toast. So here's a request: anybody out there, or anybody you know, who loves sumo and is tech-savvy enough to be willing to pick up the task of looking after it? I'm sure all of those on the List will be more than grateful!

    Hakuhou preparations- Aki 2010

Haven't heard of "yobimodoshi" before. What is it and what would it mean if it it might "just happen during a basho"?
