I entered my GTB (with a separate explanatory email to Moti), that I was using the Y2 option as my Yokozuna-Ozeki pick.

@Doitsuyama - can the current automation handle having an additional maegashira pick, when lacking a sanyaku rank? I think I recall bringing up this topic with Kofuji when I visited him in UAE, and I think he said that it was already included in the automation - but that was the old automation.

That bit I did foresee all those years ago..... To quote from here... Your squad for the Bench Basho. This will comprise of the following Makunouchi Division rikishi:- One Yokozuna, one Ozeki, one Sekiwake, one Komusubi and 6 Maegashira rikishi. In the case that one or more of the sanyaku ranks (i.e. Yokozuna, Ozeki, Sekiwake or Komusubi) have no active rikishi taking part in a particular basho, you will be allowed to select an extra maegashira ranked rikishi to fill out your squad. Be sure to check after the Day 1 torikumi is announced on the Saturday before the basho to see if any of your rikishi have withdrawn due to injury so that you can replace them in time.

Hey, you also won Guess Hokutofuji's Aite this basho - or do you just take that for granted these days.
  6. Hooray! Out of a matter of interest - what was the previous record score?

I was sure that I covered this eventuality in the original Bench Sumo rules written a couple of decades ago, but it seems that I didn't. However, yes, a Yokozuna-Ozeki will be considered a Yokozuna for the purposes of Bench Sumo.
  8. Announcing the January 2020 edition of Guess Kisenosato's Aite.... Guess Hokutofuji's Aite All you have to do is guess M2E Hokutofuji's opponent each day, before the torikumi comes out. If you guess correctly, you get a shiroboshi. This is surprisingly more fun (or frustrating) and challenging than it should be. It also gets you to think a bit more about the 'inner-workings' of sumo. Here is the current banzuke:- New banzuke for January 2020 Jakusotsu (Y2E 6-9) Y1 Gurowake (YOW 6-8-1) Kuroimori (Y1W 4-10-1) Y2 YO Sakura (Y1E Kosho) chishafuwaku (O1E 7-7-1) O1WAKATAKE (S1E 6-9) S1 Ryoshishokunin (K1E 9-6) S2 Tenshinhan (S1W Kosho) orandashoho (M1W 6-9) K1 shimodahito (K1W Kosho) Jejima (M1E Kosho) M1 Andonishiki (M2E 6-8-1)Profomisakari (M2W 6-9) M2 Hakuhonofan (M3W 6-5-4)The Kyokai (M4E 3-12) M3 Houmanumi (mz 3-7-5) Banzuke-gai Umizoi (M3E 0-0-15) Chickystar (M4W 0-0-15) Comments All three Yokozunas are expected to perform much better than last basho - especially Kuroimori who went MK. We hope that he (Dai) Yokozuna-Ozeki will be competing this basho, after an absence in November. chishafuwaku will be considered for promotion to Yokozuna with a Yusho in January. The rules are as follows:-1. Guess M2E Hokutofuji's opponents on each day of the basho.2. Entries need to be in before 11:30 am Japan time on the previous day, except for the days 1 and 2 entries which need to be in before 11:30 am Japan time on the Friday prior to the start of the basho. If it turns out that the daily toriukumi is printed before these times, then any entry proved to have come afterwards is not allowed for that day (so enter early to be safe).3. Tie-breakers to decide the Yusho.... We look at the result of the day 15 prediction, then day 14, and so on back to day 1. If still a tie, then the highest ranked on the banzuke can claim the Yusho.4. If M2E Hokutofuji goes kyujo during the basho, we switch to M2W Mitakeumi (M1W Myogiryu, then M1E Endo kept further in reserve, if needed due to a mass spate of kyujos) for the days after his fusensho loss (I.e. we can still guess who gets the freebie). For the immediate day afterwards, (unless it is known very soon after the event), everyone will get a 'kyujo'.5. Players that are leading the Yusho race (especially in the final few days of the basho), are requested / expected to get their picks in very early (before all the other players, if possible) - in order to avoid suspicions of 'tactical picking'.6. If the kyokai changes the originally posted torikumi for any day (such as for a late kyujo), the first version released will be used for the purpose of this game. Special prizes (many thanks to Yaochoyama): 1. Outstanding performance (shukun-sho) - the one who correctly picks the aite the most consecutive days. You have to have a minimum of three to win this prize. 2. Fighting spirit (kanto-sho) - the one who limits their incorrect aite picks to the shortest number of consecutive days (literally the one whose longest losing streak is the shortest). Any losing streak of 5 or more days would disqualify you from this prize. 3. Technique (gino-sho) - the one who is best at making correct picks when no one, or hardly anyone else does. A point system is used as follows and you need at least 3 points to claim this prize: 3 points if you're the only win to make the correct pick 2 points if you're one of two to make the correct pick 1 point if you're one of three to make the correct pick New players () are cordially invited to this game - it is an official second league © game!

    Guess Hokutofuji's Aite January 2020

The KK line is calculated by adding the scores of every player (except the kyokai) who turned up for at least 10 days, then dividing by that number of players and rounding to the nearest whole number. The OQ line is calculated by multiplying the unrounded number for the KK by 1.3333, and then rounding to the nearest whole number.
  10. Doing what I promised before the new ozumo banzuke is out.... Apart from the first basho (when all players' scores are counted), I am deciding on the records thusly.... a) Mae-zumo players are excluded from calculations. b) Kyujo (0-0-15) players are excluded from calculations. c) Players going intai during a basho are excluded from calculations. d) All players scores are added up, and an average taken. That figure is then rounded to the nearest whole digit. That becomes the KK / MK cut off-line. e) The above score (not rounded up) has 33.33% added to it, which is then rounded to the nearest whole digit. This is to give the Ozeki-calibre record. (This equates to the difference between 7.5 and 10, which directly relates to ozumo.) Edit: New rule c) in memorandum of Kofuji.

Yokozunas Gurowake and Kuroimori barely got their KKs. More is expected from them. We hope to see better in March. The last time that Yokozuna Jakusotsu showed Ozeki Quality sumo was back in May of 2019. In the bashos since, he has gone MK or scraped a KK. We will set him a challenge of showing why he is worthy of the Yokozuna rank by displaying Ozeki Quality in either (preferably both) of the upcoming March and May bashos. Having won the Yusho in November, and a share of the Jun-Yusho this basho, Sekiwake Ryoshishokunin will be considered for promotion to Ozeki with a mere KK in March.

@Doitsuyama @Jakusotsu I think that there is a way to enter Bench Sumo now - which does not require the torikumi. When you currently click on daily entry, you will get the message that entries for day 14 are now closed. But look at the web address. It will look like this http://benchsumo.sumogames.de/DailyEntry.aspx?D=14 All you have to do is change the 14 to 15 at the end, so, like this http://benchsumo.sumogames.de/DailyEntry.aspx?D=15 and you should be able to make your day 15 entry.

Which were at least semi-predictable? At least for Kakuryu (I have Kakuryu high up in my UDH entry - and I see he is 6pts for many players there.) I also have Hak down for a KK. If the only reason that I am doing well this basho (and may win it) is because (34 year old , and recently injury prone) Hakuho withdrew early from the basho, then I fear, as I implied a few basho back, that the game may have a few issues....

Actually, I think Jak is correct - unless Tok wins tomorrow, and the torikumi comes out late, with an exciting Tok vs Tak bout.... (Could happen. When Takatoriki won his yusho, the two Hawaiian Yokozuna bout was cancelled for that basho to accommodate the trickster.) But, I will go my own way with.... 15 - Enho
