  1. Announcing the November 2019 edition of Guess Kisenosato's Aite.... Guess Hokutofuji's Aite All you have to do is guess K2E Hokutofuji's opponent each day, before the torikumi comes out. If you guess correctly, you get a shiroboshi. This is surprisingly more fun (or frustrating) and challenging than it should be. It also gets you to think a bit more about the 'inner-workings' of sumo. Here is the current banzuke:- Banzuke for November 2019 Sakura (Y1E 13-2) Y1 Kuroimori (YOW 11-3-1) Jakusotsu (Y2E 8-7) Y2 YO Gurowake (Y1W Kosho) chishafuwaku (O1E 10-5) O1WAKATAKE (M2W 10-5) S1 Tenshinhan (M1E 8-7) Ryoshishokunin (S1E 7-8) K1 shimodahito (S1W 7-6-2) Jejima (K1W 6-9) M1 orandashoho (K1E 4-5-6)Andonishiki (M1W 5-9-1) M2 Profomisakari (M2E 6-9)Umizoi (M3E Kosho) M3 Hakuhonofan (M5E 5-6-4)The Kyokai (M4E 1-14) M4 Chickystar (M4W Kosho) Comments: Last basho, Yokozuna Jakusotsu barely scraped a KK. This is of some concern. It is hoped that he will up his game for this basho. The rules are as follows:-1. Guess K2E Hokutofuji's opponents on each day of the basho.2. Entries need to be in before 11:30 am Japan time on the previous day, except for the days 1 and 2 entries which need to be in before 11:30 am Japan time on the Friday prior to the start of the basho. If it turns out that the daily toriukumi is printed before these times, then any entry proved to have come afterwards is not allowed for that day (so enter early to be safe).3. Tie-breakers to decide the Yusho.... We look at the result of the day 15 prediction, then day 14, and so on back to day 1. If still a tie, then the highest ranked on the banzuke can claim the Yusho.4. If K2E Hokutofuji goes kyujo during the basho, we switch to K2W Asanoyama (K1W Endo, then K1E Abi kept further in reserve, if needed due to a mass spate of kyujos) for the days after his fusensho loss (I.e. we can still guess who gets the freebie). For the immediate day afterwards, (unless it is known very soon after the event), everyone will get a 'kyujo'.5. Players that are leading the Yusho race (especially in the final few days of the basho), are requested / expected to get their picks in very early (before all the other players, if possible) - in order to avoid suspicions of 'tactical picking'.6. If the kyokai changes the originally posted torikumi for any day (such as for a late kyujo), the first version released will be used for the purpose of this game. Special prizes (many thanks to Yaochoyama): 1. Outstanding performance (shukun-sho) - the one who correctly picks the aite the most consecutive days. You have to have a minimum of three to win this prize. 2. Fighting spirit (kanto-sho) - the one who limits their incorrect aite picks to the shortest number of consecutive days (literally the one whose longest losing streak is the shortest). Any losing streak of 5 or more days would disqualify you from this prize. 3. Technique (gino-sho) - the one who is best at making correct picks when no one, or hardly anyone else does. A point system is used as follows and you need at least 3 points to claim this prize: 3 points if you're the only win to make the correct pick 2 points if you're one of two to make the correct pick 1 point if you're one of three to make the correct pick New players () are cordially invited to this game - it is an official second league © game!
  2. I think TUG deserves to be on the Super Banzuke, whether or not it is fully automated (it is semi-automated at the moment.) It is significantly different to other games. Strategy / risk is involved in the picks - and it is quick to enter (a big plus for me, these days.) I will be sad to say goodbye to Fantasy Sumo (if it does go - but surely this is a game that can easily be adopted and automated by someone else?) - but it is quite similar to RotoSumo which we will still have....
  3. Just in case there remains a problem with the day 1 entry, please enter your day 1 picks in this thread, and it will be sorted out later. HOWEVER, to save time and energy, please only do so at your last possible moment. OR delete your post from below if later you have managed to make an entry okay.

    Bench Sumo news

Dear all, I have been rather busy of late, but the following message was delivered to me a few days ago by the venerable Marushiki, chair of the Bench Sumo Yokozuna Deliberation Council. **************** Venerable Richijo Firstly, the YDC sadly accept the intai of Randomituski from Yokozuna ranking. It was a short rein but memorable, we wish him well in future endeavours. One of the YDC members suggested instating "ichidai haridashi yokozuna" status. It is hoped that Randomitsuki will keep playing as Randomitsuki II in future Basho, his presence will be missed should he completely leave. In regard to Kitakachiyama, We are all very impressed with his performance over the last year. It is with honour that we offer Kitakachiyama the promotions to Yokozuna. The acceptance of this promotion is entirely up to his. Given the experiences of previous Yokozuna, and knowing the challenges faced in the BS game, (Not to mention the possible Wakanohana II curse) . Should he choose to decline promotion we fully understand. Marushiki (Chair YDC) **************** Of course Kitakachiyama will accept the promotion! (and will be ranked at Yokozuna on the next banzuke.) Omedetou! Back-to-back yushos is impressive! We look forward to reading Kitakachiyama's yusho acceptance speech, and his Yokozuna acceptance speech. It is a new era of Bench Sumo - the Kitakachiyama era! Jejima (BS rijicho)

    Bench Sumo news

Hi all, I have just received the following email from the esteemed Marushiki, chair of the Bench Sumo Deliberation Council. This Council is - and always has been - completely independent of myself and the other banzuke makers. Enjoy! Jejima Venerable Rijicho The newly refurbished BSYDC has met in our HQ, and discussed Flohru’s performance. We debated long and hard, looking back at his record for the last 12 months. There was a bit of an initiation with our 4 new YDC members, and then once we inducted we got down to business. I thought everyone would like to see our HQ, if you click on the link, then on the picture you will see arrows that will show you other images of our BS YDC HQ. With our increased number of members we have bought a new Hot Tub that accommodates us all at the same time. Might I add that our new members do look rather delightful in our new Fuchsia Kimono with yellow Wattle embroidery, purchased especially for the YDC members. No now down to Flohru, it was after much debate and consideration that with a majority in the deciding vote. The BS YDC acknowledges that any Yokozuna is in a difficult position to maintain the rank. We also must remember that in the game of Bench Sumo, there are a huge amount of factors that contribute to our performances each Basho. Therefore I am pleased to announce, the majority of us agreed that Flohru should be offered Yokozuna status. Now that business is done, ScreechingOwl and Nekonishiki are on Hot Tub Cleaning duty, while Sakura and Frinkanohana are on dish-washing and laundry duty. Marushiki (Chair BSYDC) Congratulations to our new Yokozuna Flohru! Bench Sumo is always much better in the eras of having a Yokozuna (and I sincerely look forward to the day when we have two at once!) I look forward to hearing his acceptance speech. Of course the top of the new banzuke will have to be changed a bit, so it now looks like:- Flohru (O1E, 11-4) Y1 Bill (O2E, 9-6) O1 Taka (O1W, 7-8) O2 Norizo (O2W, 7-8)pandaazuma (K1W, 11-4) S1 Yassier (S1E, 9-6) Jejima (M2W, 9-6) K1 Rubensan (S1W, 7-8)

A gentle reminder - Bench Sumo has the earliest deadline for entries out of the daily games. Make sure that you enter in the week before the basho starts (you may change your line-up after that, but you do need to make the initial early entry.) I recommend signing up to the Bench Sumo mailing list at either yahoo groups or google groups (where you will get the reminder for entry deadline) otherwise you are missing at least half of the fun.

I got 8 points for my predictions of the Yokozunas. panda got one point. Susanoo got zero points. Would I really be MK if one or both of the Yokozunas had gone 12-3 or better? In Ozumo, it is not too uncommon for at least one Yokozuna to pull out mid-way through a basho. Would my style of picking give me a big edge if/when that were to happen?

I wonder if 'Oracle' is broken as a sumo game? I had zero time to enter any pre-basho games, and so asked for Kosho in most of them. As I had skipped Oracle in July, I *had* to play it this time. Anyone looking at my picks for this game, will see that there was next to zero thought put into them. Perhaps a tinkering with the scoring system is required?

    Bench Sumo news

    Hi all! Here is the new banzuke put together by Kaiomitsuki, Flohru and Jejima, under the watchful eye of Kintamayama, Ekigozan and Asashosakari. It was surprisingly easier to put together than usual. There is some banzuke bad luck for players with MKs in Makunouchi, which is mostly due to the size of the sanyaku shrinking to 8. All the best, Jejima Flohru (O1E, 11-4) O1 Bill (O2E, 9-6) Taka (O1W, 7-8) O2 Norizo (O2W, 7-8) pandaazuma (K1W, 11-4) S1 Yassier (S1E, 9-6) Jejima (M2W, 9-6) K1 Rubensan (S1W, 7-8) Chocshoporyu (M4W, 9-6) M1 Damimonay (M5E, 9-6) Susanoo (M10E, 11-4) 2 Kintamayama (M6W, 9-6) Konosato (K1E, 6-9) 3 Ruziklao (M8E, 9-6) fujiyama (S2E, 5-10)4 Ihopeso (M1E, 6-9) toonoryu (M1W, 6-9) 5 Gawasukotto (M2E, 6-9) Andoreasu (M11E, 10-5) 6 ScreechingOwl (M7W, 8-7) Fujisan (M4E, 7-8) 7 Gurowake (M10W, 9-6) iwakoko (M13W, 10-5) 8 tainosen (M9W, 8-7) Metzinowaka (M3E, 6-9) 9 Boltbutthamma (M5W, 7-8) Gaijingai (M3W, 6-9) 10 Terarno (M8W, 7-8) Yamashade (M6E, 5-10) 11 andonishiki (M13E, 8-7) Getayukata (M9E, 6-9) 12 Achiyama (M7E, 5-10) Haidouzo (M11W, 7-8) 13 Sakura (J3E, 9-6) Frinkanohana (J1E, 8-7) 14 Chijanofuji (J3W, 9-6) Tsunamiko (M12E, 6-9) 15 mischashimaru (M12W, 6-9) Kitahotaru (M15W, 7-8) 16 Jakusotsu (J4W, 9-6) Hokuyutaka (M16W, 7-8) 17 Oshirokita (J5W, 9-6) Itachi (M17E, 7-8) J1 Tenshinhan (M15E, 6-9) Itachiyama (J2E, KOSHO) 2 Pitinosato (M16E, 6-9) Tameiki (J14E, 13-2) 3 Mukanibaru (J4E, 8-7) Saruyama (J7W, 9-6) 4 Unkonoyama (J7E, 8-7) Hana-ichi (J2W, 6-9) 5 GONZABUROW (J9W, 9-6) Gansekiiwa (J8W, 8-7) 6 Kaiowaka (J1W, 5-10) Kitakachiyama (J10W, 8-7) 7 Mmikasazuma (J11W, 8-7) wolfgangho (J13E, 8-7) 8 Hironoumi (J8E, 7-8) Mariohana (J9E, KOSHO) 9 Unagiyutaka (ms1E, 9-6) Heiyu (J6E, 6-9) 10 Sherlockiama (J5E, 5-10) kuroimori (ms2W, 9-6) 11 shimodahito (J11E, 7-8) Furanohana (M14E, 0-0-15) 12 Holleshoryu (M14W, 0-0-15) 13 Kasamatsuri (J10E, 6-9) chishafuwaku (ms3W, 9-6) Homuburyuwa (J6W, 4-11) 14 Rikishimiezi (ms1W, 8-7) Fujiko (ms15E, 13-2) ms1 Rowitoro (ms6W, 10-5) Watashi (ms6E, 9-6) 2 Basoyama (ms7W, 9-6) Golynohana (ms3E, KOSHO) 3 Sebunshu (ms4W, 8-7) tokugawa (ms8E, 9-6) 4 Kyodaitimu (J12E, 5-10) Bunijiman (J14W, 6-9) 5 Nekonishiki (ms5W, KOSHO) Nantonoyama (J13W, 5-10) 6 kamogawa (ms2E, 6-9) aoyume (ms8W, 8-7) 7 Wamahada (ms4E, 6-9) Kotononami (ms10E, 8-7) 8 Anjoboshi (ms7E, 7-8) Kintsubasa (ms13E, 8-7) 9 Joaoiyama (ms9W, KOSHO) Takanorappa (ms5E, 5-10) 10 Oskanohana (ms17E, 9-6) Oortael (ms18E, 9-6) 11 Hibarifuji (ms11W, KOSHO) VESHANA (ms9E, 6-9) 12 Kofujinokami (ms16W, 8-7) Marushiki (ms12E, 7-8) 13 Roundeye (J12W, 0-0-15) Kishikaisei (ms13W, 7-8) 14 Akokoneko (ms12W, 6-9) Aminoumi (ms10W, 5-10) 15 Yangnomazuma (ms11E, 5-10) Atenzan (ms14E, 6-9) 16 Domichi (ms17W, 7-8) Maeden (ms16E, 4-11) 17 Banzuke-gai Kitanoyama (ms14W, 0-0-15) Jaakunakunshu (ms15W, 0-0-15 )

    Bench Sumo news

Hi everyone! Here are the updated standings for the Zentoryu Quality of Sumo Award for 2019 after the September 2019 basho. This is the combined results of the ZQoSA from November 2018 to September 2019. It reads like this..... Current ZQoSA position - (Change from after July 2019) - Rank on the September 2019 banzuke - shikona - Total ZQoSA points from the previous 6 bashos - (points gain from after September 2019, basically September 2019 minus September 2018). Flohru holds onto the top spot - and has a big lead going into the final basho of the year, when the Zentoryu Quality of Sumo Award for 2019 will be announced. I think that the prize will be taken by one of the players currently in the top 5. Coming in at #10, Konosato is the only new entry into the top 10. Over-and-out-until-November! Doing what I promised before the new ozumo banzuke is out.... Apart from the first basho (when all players' scores are counted), I am deciding on the records thusly.... a) Mae-zumo players are excluded from calculations. b) Kyujo (0-0-15) players are excluded from calculations. c) Players going intai during a basho are excluded from calculations. d) All players scores are added up, and an average taken. That figure is then rounded to the nearest whole digit. That becomes the KK / MK cut off-line. e) The above score (not rounded up) has 33.33% added to it, which is then rounded to the nearest whole digit. This is to give the Ozeki-calibre record. (This equates to the difference between 7.5 and 10, which directly relates to ozumo.) Edit: New rule c) in memorandum of Kofuji.

Yokozuna Jakusotsu barely scraped a KK. This is of some concern. It is hoped that he will up his game for the next basho, and thereby challenge the other Yokozunas.
