Hakuhou news and Aki 2009 preparations

OFF TOPIC ALERT Except the circumstance of being under 20. In fact, you can be a joint national... if you take Japanese citizenship, you do not have to revoke, say, British citizenship. You just don't tell the Japanese government about it. (It was explained to me in great detail by the consular section of the British Embassy... but really we are going completely off topic now). :-) That's my point: an anonymous person can do that (not telling the japanese goverment about retaining his original citizenship), but can a public person, as Hakuho, do that? I mean, whatever he does will be in the headlines, if he inherits a beya or has business in Mongolia. Is the japanese goverment that tolerant in such matters? That is my doubt. Kaji

    Aki weigh-in

Concerning the rikishi's weight, don't the oyakata have a say in this matter? As the life in a beya is so regulated and under strict discipline, I imagine that for a rikishi to have such mammoth-esque dimensions, the oyakata must be ,at least, lenient with that.

Hakuhou news and Aki 2009 preparations

"I haven't decided yet about permanent citizenship", said Hakuhou when he was directly asked about it, contrary to what was written yesterday. As for keiko, he had 9 matches against Tochiouzan, showing great form and overwhelmingly winning them all. AFAIK Japan does not accept double citizenship under any circumstance. So, if Hakuho is willing to acquire japanese citizenship he must give up his mongolian citizenship. Is he willing to do that? I guess that some people can get japanese citizenship and not to brag about still having the previous nationality. But, could he, as a public persona, do that? Kaji

  10. Hi, in the topic of discussing on for how long will Kaio remain fighting, my guess (a non-educated one, I must say), is that he will try to get to 100 Makuuchi tournaments (breaking Takamiyama's record of 97 presences; Kaio has already 96, so he just needs 4 more basho), and Chiyonofuji's record of 807 makuuchi victories (Kaio has already 790, so, at his current rate of victories --counting on a little help from his friends, the OBSC and some submissive rikishi-- he might get that in the begining of January basho. Perhaps the record of more career wins (Chiyonofuji's 1045) is out of range: at the current rate of victories he would need almost 2 years to get it. (Dificult but by no means impossible.) What do you think? Kaji

    Hi

Yes, he did it in his most famous duel, against Sasaki Kojiro. Actualy Miyamoto Musashi fought most of his duels with a bokken (wooden sword). In this particular duel, he decided to carve a bokken out of a roar because Sasaki's katana was very long and with this roar-turned-into-a-bokken, Musashi could increase the range of his blows. And he was an accomplished artist, exceling in painting, caligraphy and also sculpture. (This is a sumo forum: I'm affraid I am going off-topic... (In a state of confusion...) ) Kaji
