Are there anyway to check if the poll results are being fairly made? i.e., a bunch of yes or no votes being registered in a few minutes or some other unusual occurrences, short of IP logging?

The Asashoryu / Kotoshogiku match has to be one of the most comical of the basho thus far. The way giku was jumping and pushing using his stomach was like the Energizer bunny. Lesson in futility.
-
I am sick of it also.

Puzzling, considering that Mickey had the upper-hand throughout the bout until the last second when 'tenho sidestepped Mickey's charge.

Lots of features I don't understand. For example, what does "profiles views" in the Profile page mean?

More Troubles Looming for Japan's Public Broadcaster
Zuikakuyama replied to Jonosuke's topic in Japan-Japanese Discussions
Here is the offending DJ Ozma segment on youtube. -
(Annoyed...) I don't get what You mean, Sir. Hmm, for some reason, when I quoted the original post, the picture did not get quoted too. Anyway, it is the first picture in this thread.

Can someone tell me which bout was this from? I can't recall when Kotooshu was ever lifted like that.
-
Great Pics. Thanks, OY.

Wow, this is certainly a big shock. Maybe there was something other than his condition in the ring that affected his decision.

I thought by tradition the shin komusubi (Aminishiki) would get the yokozuna on the first day, or is it the lowest ranking komosubi?

New criteria for founding a new heya
Zuikakuyama replied to Kintamayama's topic in Ozumo Discussions
... as well as the 6 current yokozunas + ozekis plus Dejima and Miyabiyama. I think Shuzan qualifies (if he gets Japanese citizenship) -
It was announced today that Kotooshu has made a shikona change to... "Kotooshu" Well, the only change is in Japanese from 琴欧州 to 琴欧洲. It still means Europe. Personally, I though they could have come up with a better name.
-
Here is Sawai's new shikona in kanji. (豪栄道) The 豪 is from his own first name. I am guessing 栄is from his high school..

Bumped for gloating. B-) He didn't fare better than Osh or Roho.. Just nitpicking.. I think he meant better than Osh and Roho in their Sanyaku debut, not this basho. Note that he said "most experienced caucasian in his sanyaku debut" Always nitpicking. . . .

Hakuho was too defensive today. He fell on his back first, while shoryu was flying off the dohyo and airborne. Not too sure if Shoryu broke the plane of the dohyo first (not that it mattered any). Shoryu made sure of that by giving a final shove with his left hand while he was flying off.

The chance of Miyabiyama being promoted after this 9-6 basho is probably slimmer than none. Well, if that is the case, then it will be the 2nd time that he will be denied after posting the requisite 33 wins in sanyaku. I for one thinks this is extremely unfair, as he is the 3rd best performing rikishi this year, and has posted better records than all other ozekis except Hakuho.

I am not going to lose any sleep over this decision. Kokkai was in total control and Kotooshu was beaten, plain and simple. He was not in any position to do anything, except fall flat on his back, nor did he previously attempt any counter-move that could have resulted in Kokkai touching down first.

Hakuho, Baruto, Miyabiyama, Kisenosato Promotion Watch
Zuikakuyama replied to yamaneko's topic in Honbasho Talk
I would also suggest that Yamaneko cut down on his serial play-by-play posts. Most people only come on once a day or perhaps twice a day to look at the day's postings, and it just doesn't make very easy reading to read 3 or 4 posts written within 10 minutes of each other doing such play-by-play, real-time musings. A nice recap would be much better, along with the next day's bouts to watch, AFTER all relevant bouts have been decided. The current posts are really more appropriate for the chatroom. -
That is not exactly considered to be a piece of art. I am sure he didn't buy it for its beauty alone. It is an statue of the buddhist goddess of mercy and compassion, the Bodhisattva Avalokitsevara (AKA Guanyin in China or Kannon in Japan). She is extremely popular in East Asia, and is probably the most popular of the Buddhist gods.

In Chinese it is called "little mouse", and sometimes also as "Flower A" or "Encircled A"

This proves my theory. Singapore is really hell on earth.

Kotomitsuki has quite female-like breasts.. as does Kisenosato. Akebono has quite nice pairs.

You need to seek immediate medical attention. Having a wife is not all that it is cracked up to be....

The "Ho" in (鵬), the ones used in Hakuho, Taiho, etc., describes a mythical giant bird. I believe the most appropriate translation would be a "Roc" in western mythology. The character "Ho" (凰) is the proper translation for Phoenix. It is thought of as the female equivalent of a dragon (which is male-based), and is most commonly depicted as a bird like creature with multi-colors. Obviously, in Asian mythology there is no fire-rebirth concept attributed to the western-based phoenix. Both words are pronounce as "Ho" so that is where some of the confusion may come from.
