    Games talk Aki Basho 2017

Hey, is it just me or is the Hoshitori Contest not working this basho?

    UDH Aki Basho 2017

Just wondering how many of us are going to put Hakuho, Kisenosato, Kakuryu, Endo, and Ura on points in hopes they drop out quickly.

    Sumo ‘school’ in the U.S

Have you tried asking USA Sumo? Their Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/USASUMO/ Their website is: http://www.usasumo.com/
  4. Several years ago I read Akebono's biography. I would recommend everyone here to read it, too. The reason given for Akebono changing his style of wrestling was a severe back injury. It took many bashos to get his new technique fully integrated into his wrestling. He then started winning again. It has been often stated that the main reason for him not winning more yushos was the merger of two heyas "in order to prevent the top guys from fighting each other" and thus putting a huge roadblock to Akebono winning more yushos and making it easier for his opponents...Taka/Waka and others...to win. Just quoting what was written in the bio and said on the old listserve back 20 years ago.

    Intai notice

I knows that before every basho for the last couple years I have said to myself "This is it. No more." However, the sheer fun and joy of it all gets me pumped up for the basho and by day 15 I am so happy that I stayed with it. My only way of picking for the 20 games that I am in is two-fold: 1. I look at banzukes of the past several bashos to get a feel for how each rikishi did at a certain level in the past year. 2. I follow the injury reports people post here. That's it. Mrs. Uchidate: Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic! Gaijingai: Who asked you??? Oh yeah - I almost forgot. I love the humor we can put into a few of these games, especially Bench Sumo.

    YDC convenes-Nagoya 2017

Hmmm..Gaijin Akebono is forced to hurry back from injury and retired soon thereafter. Golden boy Takanohana is given all the time in the world, including seeing a quack in France. Hmmmm.

    "sumo-san"

Just submitted my question to the Associated Press. I'll let you know what they say.

    "sumo-san"

To be honest, I never saw written anyone calling a rikishi a sumo until all the foreigners began pouring into sumo heyas and succeeding. Most newspapers use the Associated Press style book for filing their stories. If the writer uses something else for a word, the copy editor at the newspaper that is publishing it will change it to the AP style book.. This leads me to believe one of two things: 1. The early foreign sports and culture writers used "a sumo" out of ignorance, so it just simply caught on with future generations of writers. 2. The AP style book says to call sumo wrestlers "sumos." I'll see if I can find out.

    Chiyo brothers

Yeah. If you call a rikishi a sumo, everyone will know that you are an ignorant overseas sports writer, because those are the folks who constantly make that mistake in their news stories. I guess that would mean that Donald Trump is right - FAKE news! :)

Break The Curse (The Nigate Game) Nagoya 2017

Love the new scoring system. I would rather choose a sure winner worth 1 point but with a 5-point bonus than throw caution to the wind and pick a long-shot who is worth 8 points, yet will 90% lose.

    Hakuho antics?

Oh man, do his antics remind me of Muhammed Ali and his rope-a-dope antics! And they work!

Sakura, Don't get discouraged by the small number of entrants. This is a fun, easy, quick game!

Happy Birthday, Gaijingai, Kotoviki, and Exil!

In honor of my birthday you will notice that I have posted my photo...finally. I figure that everyone knows I'm an old fart, but hey - growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.

    Natsu Masters 2017

Holy Mackeral! I'm in the top ten in the World Championship standings??? How did I ever get ahead of Flohru? Alright, who do I owe the yaocho to?? I guess my winning formula works...close my eyes and throw darts the the rikishi names.

Wow, either you are small, Martina, or the rikishi are BIG! ) I've been to keiko many times in my Tokyo visits, and the guys never seem that tall to me. Maybe because I'm 190CM. :)
  20. Thanks, Sakura. Interesting in that the heads to heads in both Golynohana's Sekitori Quadrumvirate Game and whoever puts together the Sekitori Toto Game both have the scores between the rikishi you changed, as to what I have. I drew my figures from Sekitori Toto. But then, you did specify the sumo data base, so we have to go by that. I just wonder where these two game creators get their information? This is a great game, Sakura, and I wish that more people played it.
  21. If I am correct, the choices to choose from would be - to make it easier on everyone: Sanyaku: Harumafuji 14 v Hakuho Terunofuji 2 v Takayasu Tamawashi 1 v Goeido Ikioi 2 v Kotoshogiku M1-M8: Ikioi 2 v Kotoshogiku Endo 2 v Chiyonokuni Aoiyama 3 v Okinoumi Daieisho 2 v Chiyoshoma Shohozan 3 v Tochiozan Kotoyuki 1 v Takarafuji Sokokurai 2 v Tokushoryu M 9 + Kotoyuki 1 v Takarafuji Sokokurai 2 v Tokushoryu Kaisei 2 v Kagayaki Toyohobiki 4 v Tochinoshin Ura 1 v Daishomaru Yutakayama 1 v Kyokutaisei If I screwed it up, blame it on Jakusotsu. Yeah, that's what to do. Blame it on him.
  22. Houston, we have a problem. I entered my picks for Day 10 in the afternoon of Day 10 here in the USA...way ahead of time. Survey Monkey even gave me the completion notice. I had Hokufuji and my back-up was Chiyotairyu. What can be done?
  23. Kotoshogiku Tamawashi Kagayaki I might suggest to avoid the 45 point difference in the Koto/Hakuho match that points be capped at 10 points per bout max.
