What??!! With just one kyujo basho??!! No!!! (I am not worthy...)

wow, am i the only one surprised to read this? .... Let's put it this way...I would have been surprised to read that BEFORE the basho... thats the point, her statement is one that states how they must have felt previous to the basho. its obviously not a tsunatori after he only gets 9 wins. so saying it after the fact suggests thats how they felt before the basho, which i find surprising. ...not that he deserved it even if he got a yusho, but it seems strange to throw it out there like that and say "yeah we werent going to promote you even if you won this yusho too, sorry" ....stuff like that isnt usually said to the press. its usually unsaid and kept behind closed doors, i would think. I just think the YDC members are trying to show themselves in a good light after the event. They're saying ,'Most people thought that this was a tsunatori basho Kotooshu,but unlike the average sumo follower only we ,the members of the YDC ,have the insight and expertise to have seen that he was still green around the gills and thus we did not consider him winning the Nagoya basho as sufficient in itself for Yokozuna promotion.' With the pressure to open the Kyokai to outsiders I think you'll hear a lot more press briefings like this.. To be perfectly honest ,despite what the YDC said,I can't see how they could have denied Kotooshu a Yokozuna promotion if he had won this basho .

A couple of bouts and so many different theories and opinions... Does anybody have anything to say about the Miyabiyama Takanohana bout? Is there anyway you can call that for Takanohana,keeping the shintai rule in mind. Personally ,I have very great difficulty in seeing it less than a win for Miyabiyama.

Asashoryu-Hakuho Asashoryu-Kotonowaka Why wasn't the shintai rule exercised in the above two bouts? My understanding is that this is a subjective call and maybe part of the rulebook that needs tightening.

There was a little debate with the gentleman posting the videos on youtube,essentially expressing skepticism about the information given on the video,but he removed the comments. ;-) Apparently,the website from which he ripped the video stated that the wrestlers were Nishinoumi Kajiro I(Yokozuna) vs. Konishiki Yasokichi(Yokozuna) Here are actual their actual pics,if you wish compare them with the wrestlers on the video: Nishinoumi Kajirō I Konishiki Yasokichi I The description given for the video,by the BBC on their website is far less specific: "Sumo wrestlers adopt tachi-ai crouch position, watched by gyoji and spectators in studio recreation of traditional Japanese sumo wrestling event; 1900's " So in fact the forum members are in concordance with the Beeb.

Agree totally.Any moral indignation or sense of entitlement here is out of order. I think we've been spoiled by the easy access to sumo videos over the years-first Dale's site,then info-sumo and toyasuko. (We British fans have the Eurosport non-coverage to deal with too.) Still.... (Blowing up furiously...)

Hakuho for the yusho then? I hope to be proved wrong but this looks like being a miserable basho...
