    A very future yokozuna

I have a new theory of what Hakuho's son's name means fellow forum members! The German connection was slightly 'shocking' as Blue Wolf had previously stated.Well,I was going about my buisiness when one of my synapses fired.I recalled that "Maha" means great in Bengali. It also means great in the ancient language Sanskrit(eg Mahabharata -"Great India"- the Indian epic) ,a language whose relation to Bengali is similar to that between Latin and French. So I wondered that Mongolia being a Buddhist nation(whose texts were written in Prakrit a later vernacular version of Sanskrit),whether its people used Sanskrit words in their names... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongolian_name Apparently they do So I checke Mahato in the Monier-Williams Sanskrit-English Dictionary. This is what I found: So presumably from the context in which mahato was used aboved.. Monkhjargalmahato means "eternal great happiness" I also just right now looked for the alternate English spelling "mahata". In which case,we have this: http://vedabase.net/m/mahata

    Asashouryuu considering intai

Not generally in Britain to the best of my knowledge.I spent a few years in private school in India and yes if you failed your end of year tests you had to retake the year. (Sign of disapproval...)

    Asashouryuu considering intai

So Mongolia is part of the West now? Concerning Asashoryu, I think a lot of people here exculpate his vicious streak, his arrogance, his wishing to push the rules to push the rules to the breaking point because they see them as probably an essential part of the demons that drove him into becoming such a great fighter. This is a man whose inner world has been moulded by the wide open plains and mountains of Mongolia. Also for better or worse he has imbibed and tried to live up to the archetype of the macho swaggering Mongolian male. Yes,he may have fallen short of the Ozumo ideal and ,yes,it is after all Japan who offered him this opportunity, but doesn't the fact that he is such a great champion and he gave the public so many incredible bouts count for nothing? There are lot of things in sumo that give me pause for thought: the severe beating allegedly meted out by Chiyonofuji that ended the career of Hokutenyu's brother, the Japanese public seemingly delighting in the degradation of "much respected" Yokozuna Akebono in his post-sumo career, the recent beating to death of a young rikishi, the murder of the trainer and sumo wrestler before they were going to spill the beans about match fixing.... However, rightly or wrongly, I'm willing to overlook such things because to me sumo is a amazing sport and wonderful spectacle. Especially, the drama of Takanohana going up against Musashimaru,or Asashoryu charging up the ranks,or the great rivlary between Hakuho and Asa are things that make sumo great for me.

Er...machtpolitik? Power politics? ;-) I've heard that before.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_politics An example of machpolitik nowadays would be America's relationship vis a vis the Middle East.

You mean the introduction of words of German/Japanese extraction into his son's name? (Sign of approval...)

    Day 2 Pics - Aki 08

If anyone is posting videos, please inform me because I won't lie, Sumo is not big in the UK. (Shaking head...) Why did I move. . . I'm trying to get the torrent for day1's proceeding. Its taking me hours.... (Whistling...) So I can't help you really. Just be content with the Baruto bouts from day 1 and day 2: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-kYG_VOfZe0 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GZmtyMz1Hfc

Kitanoumi resigns, the brothers are out

Sorry, but that doesn't make sense. The incident with the bar hostess happened in October 2004 when Roho was already in Makuuchi. Jonosuke must have been referring to another, unspecified debt.

Oh well...at least of one them seems to be taking it in his stride. (I am not worthy...)

I just find this unbelievable... (Blinking...) Personally, for me, this whole saga has left a very bad taste in the mouth.

Fair enough! (Flying a plane...) (Showing respect...) ;-) But beating up an unfortunate, when drunk... I take it that's a big deal everywhere-particularly for rikishi in Japan. No?

    Kitanoumi to quit

They're not going to be kicked out of ozumo then Jonosuke?

  17. Has anyone read the Guardian link: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/sep/0...;feed=worldnews :-)
  18. Nah MDMA is ecstasy. That can't improve an athlete's performance, can it?Speed or amphetamine, which is a stimulant is different.
  19. So who were the individuals pushing for this "surprise urine test"? Is there any precedent for such a test or is this the first time? Up in post #5 Fay linked to a topic that may help with some of your questions... Professor Yohei Onishi? Hmm... http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/programgu...02/s2169764.htm On the other thread,it seems that Asashoryu was cheerfully bu$$$$ting him If the kyokai do adopt strict WADA protocols,I do hope they know what they are getting into.I can well see the disruption to sumo and the number of the wrestler effected being far greater, than this cannabis scandal. I suppose that is for another thread.....

  21. How else did the cannabis get into their urine,if not through committing a felony??? They're screwed.
  22. Assuming that you are not providing a hypothetical case,Jonosuke, and assuming that this is official and in the public domain,I assume they're going to be kicked out of sumo,if only for consistency's sake.

"Nurse, nurse hidenohanas out of bed." (Hugging...) B-) Jake, You seem to want to approach the subject of sumo with a minimum of background knowledge and a maximum of aggression.I believe the reason that you don't do the research yourself is not necessarily, because you don't know how to use a search engine or that you have no time(you have enough time to type a long reply to the posts here),but because you believe to do otherwise would be to cramp your style. Well there is something to be said for that attitude. After all ,"“The great accomplishments of man have resulted from the transmission of ideas and enthusiasm.” Just as long as we can all appreciates this is a two way street, there will always be a warm welcome for us in sumoforum! :-P

More appropriate here methinks: "Jojo left his home in tucson, arizona For some california grass. Get back, get back. Get back to where you once belonged"

Your analogy doesn't work kaiguma.Asashoryu's '"delicate psyche" ',here,is comparable to the sensitive glans in a newly circumcised penis, rather than the 'newly removed foreskin'. I don't particular doubt it.I confess to a little queasiness with the imagery, myself.
