It is manually sorted out now... I hope... no one in TTT picked an affected rikishi so far. For Sekitoto I kept the pick status for Hidenoumi and Myogiryu (the unchanged rikishi in the two changed torikumi), so it should be ok. Of course anybody still has plenty time to change their picks.

    New recruits for Hatsu 2016

Maybe "qualified" is a wrong term (qualified for what?), it's rather a matter of "finished". Anyway, thanks a lot as usual, I have entered the bouts into the DB now.

    Games Talk Hatsu 2016

I corrected this. There is no real login in Juryo game, just a password check, so just a new player is created if the shikona is unknown. By the way, this a very rare error, and two more players made the same this basho, also corrected now.

I kicked Hoshitori as usual, standings should be up and running.

I wonder if many Japanese go there, 'Ko Samui' sounds really a liitle cold for them. :-S

    New Banzuke for Hatsu 2016

Nice, so it actually exists in Unicode, good to know. I updated his old shikona accordingly (you can see this on the Japanese pages). Of course this is not showing in an IME, this is extremely obscure.

I really don't have much to rely on with the NSK pages for new deshi still missing. I inserted Sakamoto now, hopefully the reading of the day 2 torikumi will work.

    New Banzuke for Hatsu 2016

They are the same because the exact kanji isn't available in Unicode so they replaced with the most similar kanji which just happens to be same. Why posting it in the kaimei list at all then? Well, there was a change, they just can't write it on the internet.

    New Banzuke for Hatsu 2016

Most certainly not. This is a totally different kanji.

    New Banzuke for Hatsu 2016

The database grabs the shikona changes from http://www.sumo.or.jp/honbasho/banzuke/kaimei_rikishibefore grabbing the new banzuke (a must, otherwise it gets difficult to follow the rikishi), and as you can see there is this mysterious non-change. I think it's a case of changing the 'umi' 海 to another character with one more stroke, but not available in Unicode (or back from such a character to the standard). The change shouldn't even be visible as they get filtered out, but the necessary romanization algorithm can't really "see" that the るう in つがるうみ is not a long ru but must stay ruu. I corrected the romanization now.

Works for me. But you have to escape the special characters in the url, sadly the esacpe gets lost when editing or replying: foo>bar

I can help you here. Three fusen in Makuuchi happened on the following days: 1943 May, day 11 1948 October, day 7 1949 January, day 6 1954 September, day 8 1971 May, day 6

Why is Tokitenku currently showing up as giving people who picked him 14 points? These things get corrected after the basho. Done now.

Basho Talk - Kyushu Basho 2015 +++ Spoiler Alert! +++

Yokozuna never get demoted, they only retire. 8-7 would be not good at all, but he still has two chances to get more wins. And yes, he is rumored that his shoulder injury is not healed yet.

    Trivia bits

Harping on the theme of two-rikishi same-beya playoffs, senshuraku will see the 59th instance of these, and it's no big surprise that two Kise-beya riksihi (Shiba and Ura) are involved. Now the last four such playoffs are from Kise-beya (Shiba-Takagi in Nagoya 2014, Hamaguchi-Iwasaki in Aki and Nagoya 2012 were the last three), as well as six of the last ten. Kise-beya is tied at six now with Kasugano-beya and closing in on the all-time leader Nishonoseki (seven same-beya-playoffs). Actually, the Kitanoumi-beya playoff in Nagoya 2011 between Sakumayama and Sasanoyama really should count for Kise-beya too as it fell in the period when Kise-beya was absorbed by Kitanoumi and then branched out again (with the same oyakata ex-Higonoumi before and after), and the two involved rikishi inofficially belonged to Kise-beya.

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Kyushu 2015

Also noteworthy: That Kyushu 1970 tournament not only had 4 Hanakago rikishi in makushita, but also 3 Kasugano guys in sandanme. And even more weirdly, the Hatsu 1974 sandanme playoff had 3 rikishi from both Futagoyama and Kasugano among the 10 participants.Another odd bit happened in Haru and Natsu 1957, which both featured a Tokitsukaze trio in back-to-back sandanme playoffs. It's probably just random noise, but these triple appearances have disproportionately come in Fukuoka (7 of 19), and sure enough we're in Kyushu again now... And coming back to this basho, sadly Oisato put a needle into our dream bubble, beating fellow low sandanme returnee Kototaiki. The other two Sadogatake rikishi will try to avenge him in the tomoe-sen on senshuraku. :-)

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Kyushu 2015

You seem to be awfully sure that Fujinokaze will lose his matchup with 5-1 Tsukimoto tomorrow. :-P Regarding the same-heya-tomoesen, you are correct that this never happened yet to my knowledge. There have been 19 playoffs with three or more rikishi from the same heya but always with at least one more rikishi in it. Coming closest was Kyushu 1958 with only one extra riksihi when the Jonokuchi playoff had 3 rikishi from Nishonoseki-beya. Two out of the 19 occasions had even more same-beya rikishi: Kyushu 1970 had 4 rikishi from Hanakago-beya among 9 participants in the Makushita playoff , and the very big 11-rikishi Sandanme playoff in Aki 1964 featured even 5 rikishi from Kasugano-beya.

Corrected for now, but it was likely the symptom, not the reason... I will have to look a bit further.

What did I do wrong? Everything seemed to be okay (as far as I recall) when I made the entry..... You entered as a new player "J" instead of the usual "Jejima". Probably you typed J, the autocomplete opened, but you never did the complete, so the J stayed there unfinished.

    Games Bugs

What's your problem with Fujisan? ;-) The player "J" actually is Jejima, and it's not a second entry. I suppose his autocomplete failed him and corrected that (as well as your entry).
