  1. If you are staying in Tokyo or planning to go there, you might be interested in this offer from a fellow forum member:

Do you want to study Japanese in the traditional area of Asakusa in Tokyo and watch Sumo at the stadium?

Tokyo Riverside School has many short and long term Japanese courses from Beginner to Super level. You can join us any time.

If you stay for longer we provide you with a student visa.

Disclaimer: Sumo Forum is not affiliated with Tokyo Riverside School.

  2. I have neglected Rijicho-duties but have paid all the expenses for a long time now. This sumoforum costs 63 euros every 3 months making it 252 euros per year + some domain registration fee (can't remember how much it is but not much).

Now time is ripe to not pay this anymore, at least not all of it. Finland is IBAN/BIC thingie country so international bank transfer would be nice.

Who wants to take part in paying the costs? Send me pm via forum to Kaikitsune Makoto account. I will wait for 1-2 weeks and then see how many voluntary participants are and will then approach you personally and give you IBAN and BIC which you can use to pay me some if you wish.

I am not interested in hearing about cheaper options for the database. The interest is not that high for me anymore. Closing down the forum is the only other option for me if the contract with Nebula is ended. I won't initiate any inquiries about how to move the database or parts of it to other provider.

Just send the pm to Kaikitsune Makoto please. That is me too.

  3. I am leaving active sumoforum life. Exil is quite busy with his life although he has done his admin stuff without any problems and with admirable accuracy. No wonder as he is one smart human. If Kotoseiya isn't interested in getting sumoforum back under his wings as rijicho, then it will become a problem of sort as it would naturally be better if a Finn would run the show as the company is Finnish and all that. I can pay the yearly expenses if that is a problem as sumoforum had a special spot in my heart.

For now I will give Exil the "rights" to be rijicho. He is doing most of the stuff on forum anyway while I haven't done much anything in a long while. Based on my earlier impressions, he isn't so keen on being the rijicho as such and prefers the admin guru role. In the case that Kotoseiya isn't available, I don't know how the rijicho-aspect will be solved. Otherwise the forum is in good hands with current mods and Exil as the technical back-up person.

Reasons for departure? Total alienation from forum and clearly diminished tolerance. I need sumoU, not sumoforum.

    Be well.

  4. Generally I like your posts and you writes a lot of good things, but this remark aint your best.

If the kyokai only knew what kind of feelings they evoked when punishing Asa....

    You guys are funny...

Well, It could be funny if it some newbies change these type of conversation. But......

Mr Kaikitsune Makoto wrote this in reply my post which has nothing against the RULE

We have our national wrestling. We have our NAADAM

Isn't that very barbaric and uncivilized?

It is insult to culture of Mongolia.

As a member he has violated this forums rule.

Forbidden actions resulting in immediate loss of membership

Posting of an insult or derisive comment based on gender, race, ethnicality, sexual preference, political opinions and some other equivalent factor.

He made /posted an insult or derisive comment on our race and ethnicality. Since the time of Chinggis Khaan, Naadam festival is cultural Icon of Mongols as important as Japanese National Sport Sumo

On this violation of rule, Admin or Mods should take action which should result immediate loss of membership of Mr Kaikitsune Makoto.

But I am surprised to see this

From March 2004 onwards the forum is administered by Kaikitsune Makoto who uses the nick of Rijicho qua administrator.

As an administrator, He should be more cautious about his posts.

So what shall I do. Shall I request Mr Kaikitsune Makoto who is Admin to ban himself. Or shall I wait until he comes up with some kind accusation against me.

At least , I request Mr Kaikitsune Makoto to apologize for his insulting/ derisive comments against national festival of Mongols

Well it was provocative on purpose. "Barbaric and uncivilized" was quite odd statement anyway and thought it would have been intrepreted as sarcasm. Especially with the follow-ups on "meat eating barbarians" and silly stuff like that. Bottom line is that the attitude of some Mongolian members that world is out to get them and always do what is harmful for MONGOLIAN rikishi is extremely annoying so I got carried away and wanted to try if they take the bait and attack my so derisive comment about nadaam. Who am I to judge though? So I am sorry about putting more fuel in the flames. In a way this still is "my" forum though and sometimes I'd like to ban some members just because they are so incredibly annoying but that would be very childlish too and immature and that would be not good admin work at all.

Nothing pisses me off as much as opportunistic "discrimination!" or "yaocho!" shouting posts. When in 10 bouts the outcome of a bout or basho is "unsupportive of Japanese rikishi making it to ozeki or yokozuna in order to get sumo more popular" and then in one basho the opposite is true, some members crawl out and bring up their conspiracy theories that it must have been yaocho!!!! or bitter people come up with something similar.

    1. Nadaam is not barbaric nor uncivilized

    2. Mongolia is not a bad country

  5. The sentiments are similar to Kintamayama's. The versatility on forum is superb now. The videos and pictures offered by various members are highly appreciated. Not only that but we have experts and enthusiasts on every field of sumo. Living sumo encyclopedias, database gurus etc. So as a rijicho a big thank you is definitely appropriate. The list of the names that would deserve a big thank you is very long but for example Sekihiryu for lower division videos, ilovesumo for your amazing passion towards sumo and the way you bring it on forum, Kintamayama for being the cream of jijii, Nishinoshima for a number of extremely interesting heya/Kokugikan/rikishi interaction comments, Fay for the cavalcade, Doitsuyama for the too much taken for granted daily result posts, Jonosuke and Madorosumaru for the translation and living encyclopedia work, OY for personality and benign bubbles, all the regular posters for keeping the conversation and debate alive. Sumoforum is indeed an unmatched source of sumo information in English. Hope it will stay that way and keeps evolving. Life is life on sumoforum.

  6. There was? I don't remember the number of posts needed to change your title but I suppose it was 50 (?). Has it been changed?

I changed it at some point. Seems to be 200 now.

Yes at least sekitori's shikona as such shouldn't be used here. "asashoryu" must change his name but "Koriyama" doesn't have to. More detailed rules unnecessary. Common sense etc. This is minor detail only.

  7. Have you changed your zero tolerance policy?

No but I have noticed it is not always so clear even in such cases. At least in couple of cases it is likely that same IP indeed doesn't mean same user. But same IP posters are more carefully observed though.

  8. Banned members can certainly emerge as new members but it is not so easy to get banned from sumoforum so usually banned members are idiots, disrespectful, just nasty bastards with bad personality in general who can't change their stripes just like zebra can't. Hence they are usually silently rebanned without much publicity. Sure, we may have banned members here in sheep's clothes trying their best to behave enough to disguise their personality of just lurk passively. Impossible to screen everything.

So yes, that is one reason why double nicks are banned but I think the other reason is even bigger. If you have more than one nick, you can take part in same discussions in devious ways and provoke other members with an agenda etc. That can be fun to you but I don't want to see that here so it is not allowed.

Some suspicions certainly are out there. Some with more evidence than others. When the crucial stage of evidence burden is achieved, banning will happen silently and unceremoniously. Then again it is not a priority on forum to hunt these down and certainly won't allocate massive amount of time to this but at least the perpretators should know it now and then there are no excuses left. This is not a big problem on sumoforum but small problems can be eradicated too when time allows.

  9. July country stats by number of visitors. Estonia has Baruto-fever..

    31242 USA

    7863 Estonia

    6312 Germany

    5379 Japan

    2338 France

    2303 Unknown

    1151 Canada

    946 Finland

    945 UK

    895 Hungary

Now is traditionally the slowest time of the year. June isn't that slow but August certainly is. Then in September the activity grows massively as Aki basho approaches and summer vacations end. This upcoming week is statistically the slowest week of the year on sumoforum.

  10. More than one active account is more appropriate term. One account is enough for everyone but it is not so bad to have another account if there is a good reason and if one doesn't post anything under that secondary account. There are many members who have registered first and then perhaps posted a couple of messages but then disappeared for a long time and registered again with a new name and the old account is never used again. That is not so bad either and understandable if there was no malicious intent. Naturally nowadays banned members are banned for good and reemerging as some softer version of the initial baboon is not allowed.

Using 2 or more names on forum actively is the biggest no no.

Fujisan! Every time I look at your avatar it reminds me of a pilot. You really look like a pilot of a commercial aeroplane sir. Kind of like an advertisement for some flight company. "Our pilots take you to your destination safely". Excellent.

  11. Active double nicks will be treated very harshly from now on. Members who have a double nick which they also use in conversations will not be tolerated. Thorough scan will be made to spot all possible double nicks and based on evidence and common sense, banning will become an option. In the rules it has not been banned exclusively but to me using active double nicks is a big crime and no mercy will be given. If some veteran member has an active nick they have been using too, send me pm immediately and I will delete the other nick. Otherwise no matter who you are, you will be banned immediately if it becomes evident that double nick is in use and you won't report it now.

The reason for this is that I have suspicion of some incidents already and will ban the guilty parties if the probability is high enough after further examination. I am completely fed up with this.

  12. Serv was banned for being an asshole. Maybe that is not exactly a nice way to put it but that is the truth. There are some members on this forum that greatly annoy me but they are safe from being banned of course as wouldn't want to create a place where the owner's preferences dictate fully who can stay and who can't. The most irritating comment about this forum is that there would be some kind of "status quo" that needs to be shaken. What does that mean?? Give me one controversial topic that hasn't been discussed here.

Moderators and some long time members whose opinions have weight do see it fit that political and religious debates are discouraged but when it comes to sumo, what is this "status quo"?

What are controversial topics then? Yaocho? Steroids in sumo? The IQ of rikishi? To badmouth a rikishi from a country that has only one rikishi? Violence at keiko? Corrupted Kyokai? Life as a Mongolian in sumo? "Foreigners in sumo are always treated badly!"?

We can discuss any less nice feature in sumo sure. I have been discussing the massive steroid usage in sumo on many occasions and vividly claim 100% of makuuchi rikishi are on steroids/growth hornones. Some discuss every loss by Asashoryu as "oh he let him win in order to help": Some posts are so ridiculous it is painful to read while some have good points. We all get irritated by some other member or by some topic at one point or another. Some people are more sensitive than others. Some Mongolians got upset over "starving Mongolian wrestlers"-article, some members like to attack other members with belittleing comments when they disagree strongly. That is the way it goes. Some are nice, some are less nice, some have big ego while some are less arrogant. Still, being the owner of this forum I do have the priviledge of banning any member I want as any host has the priviledge to kick any guest out at any moment as that is owner's right. Yet haven't done at all really. There are some members that would be driven away from my house immediately for being obnoxious but here the threshold is higher and only when certain point is crossed, banning will happen. The saying "It is like porn, hard to define but you know it when you see it" fits here.

If your way of discussing is to belittle your opponent's knowledge or understanding the minute they disagree with you, then go home.

Hardly ever has the content of the opinions about the topic or even the way they are expressed been the reason for locking a thread. Mostly it is when the topic itself becomes secondary and senseless one on one or seven on one fights that don't serve the topic anymore.

  13. No worries really. Just won't tolerate so much as before. Many people have said I tolerate too much. Moderators tolerate less actually and close topics even if I wouldn't. Kintamayama is not suspended...he self-suspended himself and is adamant never to return. I have used various tactics to turn his head but to no avail. Pleaded to his poise, arrogance and whatnot. Tried to play the guilt-card by saying he is punishing a massive amount of members who had nothing to do with the "baboons" who caused his irritation level skyrocket but he remains adamant and threathens to open up his own sumoforum even! Kintamayma was the biggest asset on the forum with his extremely entertaining posts and valuable informative posts. Nobody else has conrtibuted so much. It is very sad he has gone but life is life as usual. Maybe he comes back with vengeance.
