38 Showa Survivors took part in this basho, posting a combined 129 wins and 169 losses, with 13 kachi-koshi and 25 make-koshi. Myogiryu was absent and announced his retirement after the basho, followed by Aoiyama whose 5-10 record would have seen him drop out of the sekitori ranks too. So we'll be down to three Showa-born sekitori on the next banzuke, all of them in Makuuchi. Takarafuji reached double-digit wins (albeit with one fusensho) for the first time in eight years, and only the fifth time in his career. Tamawashi and Sadanoumi just fell short of kachi-koshi with senshuraku defeats; Tamawashi records a fourth consecutive 7-8 result. Sadanokuni claimed the first kachi-koshi of the basho, making a 4-0 start to the basho for the first time in exactly ten years. Hirose also secured kachi-koshi on the following day with his own 4-0 start. Ryusei's make-koshi will see him fall to Sandanme for the first time since 2016 Hatsu, ending a run of 51 consecutive basho in Makushita. In addition to two of our sekitori, 45-year-old Koshinoryu also announced his retirement after over 29 years on the dohyo. That leaves us with seven rikishi born in the 1970s, and eleven who had their hatsu-dohyo in the 1990s. Milestones: 1,631st consecutive bout - Tamawashi, Day 3, surpassing the record set by Aobajo. 1,300th consecutive bout - Takarafuji, Day 7. 1,200th career bout - Dairaido, Day 2. 1,200th career bout - Koshinoryu, Day 9. 800th Makuuchi bout - Sadanoumi, Day 10. 500th career win - Hagane, Day 9. 600th career loss - Aoiyama, Day 4. 500th career loss - Nionoumi, Day 10. 400th career loss - Katsunofuji, Day 8. A new ozeki deserves a timely update, so that's what just happened. The changes summarized: A late addition with a Nagoya 2024 date, as I had forgotten to include Chiyonoumi's retirement, announced between the end of Natsu and the banzuke release for Nagoya. Another intai took place following Aki 2024, with Myogiryu's departure meaning the end of the longest-tenured active collegiate sekitori's career. Takarafuji is now the active list veteran; he had actually made his professional debut four months earlier than Myogiryu, but took longer to reach the paid ranks. Aki 2024 also saw top division debuts for Onokatsu and Shirokuma, both of Nihon Taiiku but competing out of different stables, Onomatsu and Nishonoseki respectively. And finally, another promotion has been confirmed for Onosato (also Nihon Taiiku and Nishonoseki), who will be ozeki starting Kyushu 2024. He will be the 11th collegiate ozeki, with Nihon Taiiku newly represented as the 8th different university. As Asakoryu's promotion to makuuchi for Kyushu is uncertain, I have not updated him at this time. (Incidentally, he's yet another Nihon Taiiku graduate, as were outgoing Chiyonoumi and Myogiryu, so this update has been a school exclusive.)

And now (as ever belated): Tameikis ranking after Aki Basho Susanoo is back on the top. Congratulations! Second, but only per sum of TB values, is now Asapedroyu. EDIT: As Yarimotsu in the following post writes are i thhere published ranking includeD some errors. I've checked this and he is right. Again like some other times in the past. All errors have their reason in the score of participations. In future I will change the determining of this number . The new ranking I will post below. But the most importand message is: The places 1 and 2 for Susanoo and Asapedroye stay right Profomisakari

Scores for banzuke purposes: Sakura 9 (8+Top) Oskanohana 9 (8+Top) WAKATAKE 9 (8+Top) Asashosakari 7 chishafuwaku 7 Hakuryuho 7 Yarimotsu 7 Bunbukuchagama 6 Fashiritētā 6 Holleshoryu 6 Jejima 6 ryafuji 6 Athenayama 5 Profomisakari 4 Total: 94 / 14 = 6.71 ---> +1 win No doubts about that KK/MK split. The banzuke for Kyushu 2024: chishafuwaku (Ye 8-7) Y --- Yarimotsu (Oe 8-7) O1 Holleshoryu (Ow 7-8) --- O2 Oskanohana (Kw 10-5 D) Hakuryuho (S2e 8-7) S Asashosakari (Ke 8-7) WAKATAKE (M3w 10-5 D) K Sakura (M4e 10-5 Y) Bunbukuchagama (S1e 7-8) M1 Jejima (M1e 7-8) ryafuji (M1w 7-8) M2 Profomisakari (S1w 5-10) Fashiritētā (M2e 7-8) M3 Athenayama (M3e 6-9) Tetsuba (S2w 0-0-15**) M4 Ryoshishokunin (M2w 0-0-15) The ozeki merry-go-round continues with the fourth consecutive tournament that sees a promotion: Oskanohana only debuted two months ago in Nagoya, but immediately scored the yusho, and making it back-to-back top scores in Aki easily allowed him to clear the bar. Congrats! On the other hand, all three ozeki who were demoted last time (Profomisakari, Hakuryuho, Tetsuba) did not earn an immediate return. Shin-ozeki Holleshoryu has unfortunately become kadoban after his debut.
