    It is now 17 years I started setting a poll about Hakuho! Will this one be the last one? (I asked that question last year too.) Please add a comment with your prediction below - and also say how many zensho yushos you think he'll win in 2020, for the fourth question to this poll. Please also predict if and when you think he will retire this year for a new fifth question! Previous polls:- 2020 2019 2018 2017 2016 2015 2014 2013 2012 2011 2010 2009 2008 2007 2006 2005

    Will Mitakeumi make to push to higher ranks in 2021? Or will he start descending down the banzuke? Please comment below, in case a tie-breaker is required to decide the yusho. (Any comment is automatically better than none.) Previous polls: 2020 2019 2018 2017 2016

    In Nov/Dec 2014, two-thirds of the people doing this poll thought that Ichinojo would be an Ozeki by January 2016.... Now he is at the bottom of Makunouchi - but on a four bashoo KK streak. Please include your predictions in the comments below, and state what you think the actual rank of Ichinojo will be on the January 2022 banzuke (important for tie-breakers). This is the last annual poll that I will be setting for 2021. Terunofuji was made an Ozeki back in 2015. He lost his rank through injury in 2017, and then descended all the way down to Jonidan in 2019. Since then, he has rapidly moved up the ranks, and will be ranked at Sekiwake for January 2021. But, how will this year go for him? From strength-to-strength - or might he suffer another injury? Please expand on your votes in the comments below - this will be used in the case of tie-breakers required at the end of the year to decide the yusho.

    In 2020, one yusho was won by a Yokozuna, one by an Ozeki, one by a Sekiwake and two by M17s! One basho was also cancelled. How about in 2021? Which ranks do you think will win the Makunouchi yushos in 2021? Please write your predictions in the comments below. Please also mention which rikishi (give names!) you think will actually win the yushos (and how many). This will be used as a tie-breaker (if needed) to decide the yusho winner for this poll at the end of the year. Similar polls can be found for previous years below. 2020 2019 2018 2017 2016 2015 2014 2013 2012 2011 2010 2009 2008

    2020 was a weird year. Will the two current Yokozunas manage to stay on the banzuke for another year? How about the Ozekis? Two will start the year kadoban - the other is on a tsuna run. Are there future Ozekis waiting in the wings? Please leave your actual prediction for the top two ranks for the January 2022 banzuke in the comments below like this... Dracula Y1 Wicked Witch Werewolf Y2 Frankenstein's Monster O1 Headless Ghost Zombie O2 Ghoul etc - then we can see who is closest at the end of the year, to award a yusho for this poll. Kiribayama was the new bright thing at the start of 2020. He ended the year with a disappointing 3-12 at M1E. Will he bounce back in 2021? Please expand your vote with a comment below. Comments are often used as tie-breakers at the end of the year to determine the yusho winner for an annual poll.

    Takakeisho began his Makunouchi career in January 2017. He began his sanyaku career in January 2018. He won his first ever yusho in November 2018. He became an Ozeki (twice!) in 2019. In 2020, he won his second Makunouchi yusho, and his fourth Makunouchi jun-yusho. He was the youngest rikishi currently in Makunouchi for every time that this poll was created for the past four years - but no longer. With the likely promotion of Midorifuji (25 days younger than Takakeisho) in January, along with the much younger Kotonowaka, Hoshoryu and Kotoshoho, Takakeisho will begin 2021 as the fifth youngest Makunouchi rikishi. How will this young man (aged 24) do in 2021? Please expand on your votes in the comments below. Please say how many yushos and how many jun-yushos you think that he will win. Comments will be used as a tie-breaker for deciding yushos at the end of the year, if required. Previous Takakeisho polls: 2020 2019 2018 2017

    Shohozan is the oldest sekitori (a rikishi ranked in either Makunouchi or Juryo). He will be turning 37 in February. He had a year in 2020, going MK in all five of the bashos that took place. He dropped from M7E in January 2020 to J2W in November 2020. He will probably be ranked around J5 on the January 2021 banzuke. Is 2021 the year when he decides to hang up his mawashi? Please include your predictions (be as precise as you can!) in the comments below. Please also include in your comment your guess for either a) Shohozani's rank on the January 2022 banzuke or b) Shohozan's final banzuke rank before he goes intai in 2021 (These might well be used as a tie-breaker!) Previous poll: 2020

    Guess I need to change my shikona now too lol. Anyway I can do that? On a more serious note, that makushita joi looks absolutely stacked. So many sekitori level guys there fighting for promotion. will be very exciting to watch.

    To drop the other shoe ... Post-kosho, 6 rikishi have gone kyujo (0-0-7) from Ms16: 5 went to Ms56, 1 went to Ms57. Getting Abi to Sandanme with an 0-0-7 from Ms16 would be ... unprecedented.

    Juryo with 0-15: Seionada 1/1988 J13 -> Ms15 Yotsukasa 11/2005 J14 -> intai Oki 9/2020 J13 -> Ms13 Fujiazuma 11/2020 J14 -> Ms13 Pretty consistent. One important factor (?): they lost fifteen matches, not 0-0-15 "kyujo". Juryo J12-J16 with kyujo (post-kosho): J12 -> Ms13, J14 -> Ms15, J13 -> Ms11 So, J11 -> kyujo -> Ms16 is a bit of a stretch, but not actionable. As Kintamayama suggests, just a little message.

    Shoudai has finally started to do sumo training. He faced the lower rankers of his heya for 10 bouts, won them all. “I don’t feel any pain at this time.I want to slowly increase the number of bouts so I can get back to be able to do sumo. I still have difficulties going backwards and I’m also a bit slow in reacting. I want to improve that little by little by doing sumo. In the end, I just want to do good sumo and get ready calmly, “ he said.

    Takakeishou has declared that he will be participating in the Kyokai's keiko sessions. "I am planning on going. I want to build a body that can fight!" he declared. Today he did the fundamentals at his Tokiwayama beya home. "I want to build a body that will show all-out power and that is what I will be thinking of. Going all out means something (2nd yusho..). I think it is a good experience!" he summed. He then had nice words to say about Ouhou. ex-Naya, Taihou's grandson. It turns out OO was his tsukebito between May last year and November. "His classmates (Kotoshouhou and Houshouryuu, 6 O's and 6 U's) have left him behind somewhat and that weighed heavily on his mind and he struggled. He has experienced all kinds of things as a tsukebito and that has given him a different, powerful springboard to go on from here. When you climb higher, it gets much deeper.. I kept repeating to him that there is a difference between going up without doing anything and going up with this kind of experience," he said.

    Takakeishou was interviewed by phone today. He started training today, doing the fundamentals. He took a total rest for half of this last week. "I needed that rest to overcome my fatigue.. " he said. The other half was spent building up his body. "I've got a lot of stairs to climb from here on," he added. "I ate a lot during this week. Facing next basho, I feel I'm off to a good start. Business as usual- fundamentals, building up my body, bouts, fundamentals again- I just want to feel the flow and go with it.. Kyokai keiko sessions? I feel I want to participate. I hope to be able to go at it with all I have. Yokozuna run? It's all about the results. Without them you can't climb higher. In any case, I'll give it my all. If I could only gambarize, not thinking too much about it, that would be good. " he added. Tsuki/oshi rikishi are not considered good Yokozuna candidates. "If I thought so myself I would never make it. I'm being told there's no chance, so that makes me want to achieve that even more. My style is oshi-zumo. I've been doing this since I was a kid, so I'd like to continue with this and become Yokozuna.. I'll be facing the basho on a day by day basis, like in a knock-out tournament.." he added. "It's been a good year and a bad year- a yusho and an injury.. " he summed.
