I think it's about time to thank you for your extensive coverage of basically all sumo-related news - mostly coming straight from (japanese language) sources!

So thanks a lot for sharing your passion & nihon-go skills with everyone here!

You are truly all over the place!

A grandson of Taiho, 2nd year Konosuke Naya (right), was in the runner-up team at the Kantō middle school championships. There are 3 in a team, his team only had 2 members, they had to win both.

The participants and the schedule for the preliminary rounds are on the tournament site – Tōma is again on it, no. 1 for his school. Again only one team for each national district (todofuken, mostly the last: prefectures). I don't yet comprehend the reason for having the national districts championships just before this presumably main event for middle schools. The differences are that the one in the kokugikan had a light weight division for the individual tournament and the district teams where maybe put together from several schools, this coming one has a team for one school of each district, distinctly called the schools tournament, the other was the students tournament – much less information are available for that.

At high school level it is the Inter High championships with schools and the junior championships for the students, with weight classes, but without a team event.

For primary school it is even more complicated, best information has the wanpaku sumo tournament, with NSK involvement, the other one are the primary school students championships, with the winners being primary school yokozuna (the others are wanpaku yokozuna) from the Japan Sumo Federation. But then there also are the boys championships, in the kokugikan as the other two.

Sumo is a very good thing. Though better with affordable video.

Some odd matchup quirks in there - normally the second and third round matchups can be derived automatically from those drawn for the first round, but here they've switched several opponents.

Tōma won all 3 preliminary individual bouts, in the team event he won his first two and then was absent in 3rd round, the team lost that one by default.

In the final individual tournament he also lost by default – most likely injured in the 2nd round of the team event.

The national middle school championships' sumo tournament was held on the 23rd and 24th. Toma after 3-0 in the preliminaries started in round 2 of the individuals final tournament and lost (=best 64), his Urazoe Okinawa  team in the final tournament won 3-0 in the first round and lost 1-2 in the 2nd (=best 16), the win coming from Toma: seems he is especially strong in the team.

The great yokozuna (as future oyakata with a heya) was there to watch 2nd year Toma (and the others), Hakuho is in contact with him since primary school.
An active yokozuna visiting a middle school tournament is a rare thing.
Toma: "I was in bad health. I couldn't show my 100% sumo to the yokozuna"

Like the high school results: 3rd year Tsukahara (center, 187cm, 132kg) won in both team and individual.

This year Toma's school won the team title (for the first time), Toma didn't lose a single bout in the team event.
He lost at the beginning of the best 32 final tournament of the individuals.
