A lot of excitement as the new recruits arrived for their initial check-ups.
Both of them (no small feat-last year at Nagoya there was only one..) passed . One of them is 19 year old Wakayama who left Daito Bunka's sumo club in the middle of the year and will be joining Ounomatsu beya. "I just wanted to be part of the sumo world as quickly as possible," he explained.
The other guy is a Mongolian, Erdenbilg Elkmanrai ?? Who is joining Kasugayama.

Sumo is a very good thing. Though better with affordable video.

Behold, it the's reappearance of the Mongolian who was connected to Takashima-beya half a year ago! Guess they're still short one maezumo rikishi though, assuming he has to sit out one basho as usual...

Wakayama has been around Onomatsu-beya for quite a while already - see here (kid with glasses in the blue shirt) at a senshuraku party in May 2004, and again a year and a half later after a youth sumo tourney in Kanazawa.

Here he is in his current form (173/144):

His parents were active in judo in their own days, both competing at the national level with Wakayama's mother even taking home a bronze medal in her weight class, so consequently Wakayama himself used to be active in both judo and sumo. He decided to concentrate on sumo after entering high school and it paid off with a quarterfinal appearance in the usually star-studded Kokutai junior games last year. (Darn, I knew I should've translated those results again...)

I suspect the proper transcription is more like "Enkhmanlai".

Edit: And as expected he won't be in action until Aki basho. Hope they can find a banzuke-guy as opposition for Wakayama...

They managed to remove the info graphics during the maezumo bouts this time:

Masuamami (0-1) - Wakayama (1-0)
Masuamami (0-2) - Tomiyama (1-0)
Wakayama (2-0) - Tomiyama (1-1)

Thanks for the Maezumo video Asashosakari. (Showing respect...)
But behold, from among the righteous, he organized his forces and appointed messengers,
clothed with power and authority, and commissioned them to go forth and carry the light of the
gospel to them that were in darkness, even to all the spirits of men; and thus was the gospel preached to the dead.

Thank you for posting the video. I have seen pictures of the ceremony but I have never actually watched it before. :-(

Thanks! Now this "class" is added too, as well as Natsu 2011.
