Behold, it the's reappearance of the Mongolian who was connected to Takashima-beya
half a year ago! Guess they're still short one maezumo rikishi though, assuming he has to sit out one basho as usual...
Wakayama has been around Onomatsu-beya for quite a while already - see here
(kid with glasses in the blue shirt) at a senshuraku party in May 2004, and again
a year and a half later after a youth sumo tourney in Kanazawa.
Here he is in his current form (173/144):
Checkup nurse vainly trying to stop him from swallowing the hair dryer:
His parents were active in judo in their own days, both competing at the national level with Wakayama's mother even taking home a bronze medal in her weight class, so consequently Wakayama himself used to be active in both judo and sumo. He decided to concentrate on sumo after entering high school and it paid off with a quarterfinal appearance in the usually star-studded Kokutai junior games last year. (Darn, I knew I should've translated those results again...)
