Futeno: (A fifth win for the computer geek)  Good material for my blog? Guess so. You can look forward to reading it.

Anybody willing to give us a quick translated extract from Futeno's blog? (Please ;-) )

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Now that you asked for it :-P

You can check Futeno's Blog at HERE.

Below is from his Day 8 Blog:

Day 8 Loss Ucchari Vs Ama-zeki

Heisei Year 17 May Basho

"Cheers,
You are now standing on the big, big stage of your life
..."

(From "Cheers" by Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi *)

It was a TOTAL LOSS.

I came back to my room and watched the video several times.

As I figured,

I AM NOT USING MY RIGHT WELL....

I am competing, well conscious of it too...

In today's case, when my opponent started to switch his arms, I thought it was the right time to go for it and moved forward...

I guess my attack was not of sufficient strength.

My back was too high...

Ahaa....

However there was something to learn from this too.

COMPARED TO BEFORE, I AM MORE CONSCIOUSLY TRYING TO GO FOR OFFENSE AND THAT TACHIAI IS GETTING BETTER.

All I need to do is go out believing in myself ! ! !

There is no point in dragging the fact that I lost...
Especially in a time like this I should go on feeling stronger ! ! !

I may not able to correct all my errors,
but once the basho is over, I will reflect them little by little.

Right now I will do my very best on the immediate bout right in front of me.

Tomorrow.

ASASEKIRYU-ZEKI !

I will do my best.

Currently my interview is on Momoko's Meet Well known Bloggers !

Regards, everyone.

Kanpai? Ah, natsukashiku natta! I memorized that song a few years ago when I was taking an intensive Japanese class, for something to sing at karaoke. It came in handy when I was invited to a wedding reception and asked to sing something, because it is entirely perfect for the occasion. All the people were very suprised to see a gaijin sing it passably well.

I recommend anyone who wants to live in Japan to memorize a song or two in case you are ever pushed into singing karaoke.

Thanks! I will have an eye there. Btw, I guess he did "Kanpai", "Cheers" as the heading because the blog actually starts with "Kanpai desu", "It was a total loss". Nice use of words with same reading, but different meaning.

When you can pick that up, you are definitely fluent in Japanese, Doitsu san.

Day 9 (Loss) Oshidashi vs Asasekiryu-zeki

Heisei Year 17 May Basho:

.......
hmmmm,

I can't make it realize the same sumo flow as I was visualizing in my head...

Sure there is an opponent facing me.
and it happens all too often when I can't have things go my own way.

Today I don't think my tachiai was that bad,
and I focused on using my right hand.

So I have no idea why I lost.

I asked a reporter I knew, "What did I do wrong?"
And I agreed with his explanation.

"TODAY YOU TAILORED YOURSELF TOO MUCH TO YOUR OPPONENT...YOU ARE NOT MOVING BADLY SO YOU SHOULD BE ALL RIGHT."

--- I LET MYSELF TAILORED TO THE OPPONENT...

That's right. The reason for today's loss was right there.

Asasekiryu-zeki is also Hidari-yotsu, so I went along with his Yotsu,
and once I figured out he'd start coming out with Tsuki, I responded with Tsuki...

As a result the bout was over before I could display my own style of sumo....

Tomorrow,

TAMAKASUGA-ZEKI !

As my reporter friend indicated to me, I believe I am moving well too,
I'd do my best from tomorrow, not let myself get beaten mentally.

Regards.

Nothing to worry about Verena, you are as young as Hakuho and in a year or so you will be Japan learning soooo many kanjis you don't know what to be with them (Sigh...)

Anyway here's today's installment:

2005-05-17 21:44:41

Day 10 Win Tsukiotoshi VS Tamakasuga Zeki 6 wins 4 losses
Heisei Year 17 May Basho

....

Whewy...

When I start losing...

there are times

IT WON'T STOP.

So really I am feeling

A RELIEF.

Quality wise..I agree

IT WASN'T GOOD.

A habit of my upper body floating up..

so, I got

STOP RIGHT THERE

from Taichi (Dewaootori, Makushita West 33), my Tsukebito (laughs).

"I discovered something today !

When you went with tsupparis by extending your hands out first

your upper body has gone up."

..Exactly, that's true ! ! !

I really started listening to Taichi's advice.

So here begins the analysis.

"Yesterday" => I went in to get my opponent's front mawashi and couldn't, and was forced to go on defense.

"Today"=>I went in to get my opponent up and ended up having my upper body go up.

Then what could I do...
what can I do right now....

-- and that brings us to tomorrow

TOYONOSHIMA ZEKI !

I will try to go as hard as possible of what I can do right now in the tomorrow's bout.
(I will be making corrections after the basho...)

And so

today, it's

おしマイケル*
(the end)
-----------------------

Futeno used the word "OSHI Michael" - I believe he used it in a sense it's the end "Oshimai" in Japanese but made it sound a bit more cool by using Michael. Michael he used here probably refers to a Japanese comedian Michael, not an American singer Jackson.

There is a picture he posted there today but I have no more storage space left here so you need to check it at the blog site if you are interested.

Day 11 (Win) Yorikiri VS Toyonoshima Zeki 7 wins 4 losses
Heisei Year 17 May Basho

...

Today for whatever reason
I was more tensed...

I wonder why....

I have faced Toyonoshima zeki three times and
the record was 2 wins and 1 loss.

He is three years younger than me but,

he is my Senpai (senior)
(in Ozumo).

We both can generate power once we get into Hidari-yotsu stance.

So today's bout came under such a background.

We are pretty good friends actually and we talk to each other a lot.

Prior to the start, I started to feeling tensed for some reason
and I couldn't really concentrate.

(I often lose when I get in this type of state).

Personally I thought I had a pretty good sumo
(though I got a negative comment again...).

But somehow I don't feel sharp...

I felt this way at the last basho too, I often feel this way.

But I need to rejuvenate myself and I will do all my best from tomorrow again.

Tomorrow,

KATAYAMA ZEKI !

I will try to compete with having a good mindset and good quality sumo.

Day 12 (Win) Hatakikomi Vs Katayama zeki 8 win 4 losses
Heisei Year 17 May Basho

Everyone !

Thank you for your support and

I was able to get a winning record (earn a merit pay).

(As I've written before, when you get a Kachikoshi, that's how you describe it) ! ! !

During the match, I ended up pulling him several times so I am not really satsified with it,
but what can I say,,, this is the Kachikoshi at my highest rank ever...

So I am very happy...

Out of six Makuuchi bashos I had, I only got Kachikoshi twice....

And also there was my grandpa thing too...

Really

Really

Tears......

did...

Actually it's a fake cry (laughs).

OK I admit I went overboad a bit here...

But I am really happy ! ! !

After the basho I am planning to go home to my parents so
I believe I can report the good news to the grandpa too.

Bu--t !

The basho is not over yet ! ! !

I won't take it easy just because I just got Kachikoshi today,
and I will be tightening up my mawashi and do all my best again from tomorrow on so I'll appreciate all your support.

Tomorrow,

Toki zeki ! ! !

I will try my best to go with my own sumo.

Thanks for the translations!
Don't know about anyone else but personally seeing a professional sports person doing one of these being open about the emotions and so forth sure has got my support! ^_^
(especially when they're tech-savvy ^_^)

Sure is a nice thing about ozumo, one of the few professional sports that is so accessable by fans.. (well.. if you live in Japan I guess ^_^)
I need to get back to my nihongo studying too... this'll give me something to work with + compare against ^^

Day 13 (Win) VS Toki zeki 9 wins 4 losses

Heisei Year 17 May Basho
==========================================

....

We finished the Day 13 and we are left with only two more days.

Exhaustion is settling in to its peak...

But two more days ! ! !

But I'll do my best going with my guts and fighting spirits.

Thank you for all your support as I was able to win again today.

But today I'd like to talk about someone else, it's my Tsukebito and Makushita Hope !?

I will report to you about Dewaootori Taichi
(as I'd like you to know more about him)
.

Up to now he had
six consecutive wins ! ! !

And if he won today's bout, he would have won Makushita Yusho
(as there are only seven bouts for Makukshita ranks and below)...

But unfortunately he got "railroaded" out and lost...

Railroaded hmm....

Though he missed winning the Yusho,
winning six bouts in Makushita is very hard to do.

...Well then winning 9 bouts in Makuuchi isn't too shabby either (laughs).

Even though he lost, I believe it was a very valuable experience for him.

To grow further, it's not the bout you win but you
lose becomes most valuable.

Anxiety,

Worries,

You battle with them by translating them into action,
so you can achieve higher goals.

We are all in the middle of such journey..

Please cheer those of us in the midst ! ! !

=> Meanwhile for this basho it's Futeno ! ! !

and tomorrow

Kotooshu zeki ! ! !

A crisp former Sanyaku rikishi ! ! !

And he is in good condition too, so I really will be going hard.

Regards.

Day 14 (Win) Shitatenage VS Kotooshu Zeki
Heisei Year 17 May Basho

...
Oy oy oy oy ! ! !

I believe in this bout Kotooshu-zeki had an advantage over me.
(Actually on NHK's coverage, there were more comment about Kotooshu-zeki....).

As well, personally, I didn't think the quality wise I did well either.
(But I was happy I won it though...)

After the tachiai, my body floated upwards and I let him get my front mawashi...not only that but also with both hands too ! ! !

I panicked a bit, but I was able to put the left in and was trying to moving into my form, when all of sudden a Uwatenage...

I tried desparately to stay on and I threw a Shitatenage

(actually I was trying to hang on really, that somehow turned to a shitatenage form you know, a kind of. A kind of...).

So, by the time I realized it was all decided cleanly.

That moment I saw the decision came to me, I was so happy.

Untill I came back here that is and watched the video...

Even when I win, I do need to correct my errors..

It's been a long basho so far but finally tomorrow we have the Senshuraku ! ! !

and..today this is about it.

Shimotori zeki ! ! !

I will try to do my best going with my own sumo till the end.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

2005-05-23 00:29:12
Day 15 (Win) Yorikiri VS Shimotori-zeki 11 win 4 loss
Kanto-sho Awarded ! !

Heisei Year 17 May Basho

Su, Su, Su,

Are You Sure ! ! !

That was the time when I heard I could receive a Sansho award if I win today's bout.
I was so surprised...

I was absolutely certain that I'd not get it...
Strangely enough I did not become overanxious.

Actually I felt as if I was comfortably wrapped around in a good sense of tension.

I haven't seen today's bout (I forgot to tape it) but everyone told me it was a good sumo ! ! !

...I was really happy.

I've competed believing myself.

At the Senshuraku party today after a few rounds of sake I even did shed some tears.

While I still need to go further...

Today I felt the fact I was able to receive the Kanto-sho was the most wonderful thing happened to me.

However the starting point is from right here ! ! !

The real hardships will be waiting for me from the next basho.

Right here, it is from right here.

As I will be going back to my parents place after the basho, I can only update this from time to time.

From the last to this basho, I have been truly encouraged by many people! I really would like to express my appreciation.

I will do my best, so I'd appreciate if you can continue to give me your support.
